Hi, I’m Jen, welcome to my page. So a little bit about me, my experience and how I came to teaching Yoga....
I was first introduced to yoga 18 years ago, I was 17 and I was studying Holistic Therapies. My studies led me to work on a cruise ship in 2005, whereby I was required to teach Yoga. Not having that much experience I felt a little out of my depth. However before going on the ship I was given a short course on teaching ‘yoga fitness’ on-board. While working on the ship, teaching Yoga became my favorite thing. Just seeing the positive effects that people got from it, and what I too got from teaching it, made me want to learn more. Following my ship life years I went backpacking for a year, where I got to experience Yoga classes in India and Australia. On my return home to Ireland in 2008, I had decided that I really wanted to become a yoga teacher but felt I needed to have a regular practice with the same teacher. A few months later, as luck would have it, I ended up working in a yoga centre in Crete called Yoga Plus. I worked cleaning rooms, preparing meals and as a resident Massage Therapist to guests and staff. During my time I was taught the Ashtanga primary series through Mysore style classes by two wonderful teachers, Radha Warrell and Pierre Seghir. We practiced each morning except Saturdays, Full Moon and New Moon. Along with learning yoga postures within the Shala, I learnt how to carry the yoga into my everyday duties. Yoga was not just about twisting and bending my body, it was about how I treated others and myself, and how I approached my everyday tasks. I returned to Crete to practice, work, learn and grow for 6 summers in total. I am so very grateful for all the lessons I have learnt in this time, for my teachers, for the amazing experiences I've had, for the beautiful souls I have met and the amazing friends I’ve made along the way.
Education:
When I was not in Crete, I was studying Physical Education & Geography in the University of Limerick. On completing my Degree in 2014 I have gone on to complete a 200hr Yoga Teacher Training with Carol Murphy who teaches Vinyasa yoga and a 30 hr teacher training with Josh Summers in Yin Yoga in 2016. I continue to participate in CPD courses in Education, Yoga and Holistic therapies.
