A huge thanks to all who turned up for our Festive Singalong this morning with the Kilmallock Community Choir, led by music therapist Sara Dopiaza. Music filled the Library as all who came joined in our favourite Christmas tunes. The Christmas spirits were high and the community spirit was tangible! Well done to all 👏🎄🎅 ✨

Music & Connection with FamilyCarersIreland

Over the past 8 weeks, I had the opportunity to offer music therapy to an amazing group of family carers.

Together, we shared songs, stories, and moments of laughter. Music helped us connect, feel, and breathe a little easier. It reminded us that carers need care too—and that sometimes, a song can say what words can’t.

Each week brought something new—laughter, reflection, even a few tears. As confidence grew, so did connection. The group found comfort in rhythm, support in each other, and joy in simply being present. It was a special space to pause and let the music carry some of the weight.

A music therapist becomes a little bit of a chameleon when it comes to choosing a method of intervention. There’s no right or wrong… sometimes an old and known game to create trust, some others a new song to have fun!
