Parents, is your teenager abusing NITROUS OXIDE?
Nitrous oxide ia a gas that when inhaled can cause a quick 'rush' with short term effects. It us usually found in small silver cartridges (whippets) or in large branded canisters.
How is it taken?
The gas is inhaled from a ballon which has been filled with the gas, often referred to as 'nagging'. The large branded canisters are used to release the gas directly into a balloon. The gas from whippets need a device to safely discharge the pressurised gas first. The most common device used is a hand held 'cracker' into which the whippet is placed.
What are the effects?
✅Short term effects;
🔴Dizziness, light headiness.
🔴Euphoria, laughter.
🔴Confusion, disorientation.
🔴 Headache, blurred vision.
🔴Short-lived paranoia.
✅Longer term effects after repeated use;
🔴Vitamin B12 deficiency.
🔴Nerve damage.
🔴Dependence.
Risks!
✅It is very dangerous to inhale NO2 directly from a canister. This can cause frost bite to the mouth and nose as well as damage to the throat and lungs.
✅Oxygen depirvation - inhaling NO2 can reduce oxygen supply to the brain.
✅Risk of falling or accidents.
✅ Disposing of used canisters/whippets in public areas can cause harm to the environment and pose a safety risk.
