Why I Run a Spa in the AI Era: The Future of Loneliness and Human Touch.
People often ask me this.
Usually, I just answer, "Because I'm good at it."
But today, I’d like to write about the real reason—something I've been thinking about for 10 years, though back then, no one understood it.
Looking at the evolution over the last few years, it’s becoming clear to everyone that AI and humanoids will become social infrastructure, replacing many human jobs and roles.
A future where brilliant AI and robots do all the troublesome work is just around the corner.
So, what happens to humans?
It’s already starting, but interacting with real humans is becoming increasingly "hasslesome."
It requires care, it hurts, and the "cost-performance" is bad.
You don't need to look at the history of Ancient Rome to know that humans become more selfish as life gets more convenient.
From here on, we will become selfish like ancient Roman aristocrats, and at the same time, become economically free.
Since we can survive alone, we won't pay the "cost" of dealing with troublesome others.
Naturally, human relationships like "family," "marriage," and "lovers" will become diluted.
The rise in divorce, sexless couples, and outsourcing care for the elderly and children—these are all symptoms of this slow progression.
But humans are tricky creatures. We think "people are annoying," yet we feel intensely "lonely."
We hate troublesome relationships, but we crave closeness and feel anxious without physical warmth.
Smart investors say, "That's why we need real communities and entertainment!"
But I feel slightly differently.
Because people who find human interaction burdensome and are becoming "clean freaks" won't go to crowded festivals to rub shoulders with strangers, right? (lol)
In a world where everyone becomes selfish and hyper-hygienic, and no one touches each other anymore, the only place where you can safely touch and feel human warmth...
I imagined that such a place might only be a salon like this.
And I feel that future is becoming a reality.
And one more thing.
I wanted to explore a "new form of human relationship" that hasn't been defined yet in a future where existing communities are collapsing.
My relationship with clients involves direct physical touch, but we are not lovers. I listen to deep stories, but I am not family or a counselor.
It’s a distance that cannot be explained by words, connected by empathy.
I hoped that this "relationship without binding, but with closeness and warmth" could be a hint for the new connections humanity will need.
I thought it would be nice to have at least one "convenient warmth provider" as a shelter for the future.
Well, I’m just happy enough if you come simply because "AKI's massage is good" though! (lol)
