Feeling stressed out? Incorporating certain herbs into your daily routine can help combat anxiety and promote relaxation. According to a study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology (1), ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) has been shown to significantly reduce stress and anxiety levels. Another study in the Journal of Clinical Psychology (2) found that passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) can be an effective treatment for generalized anxiety disorder. A systematic review published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine (3) found that lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) essential oil can be effective in reducing anxiety and improving sleep quality.
Here are some simple and easy herbal recipes that you can make at home with these herbs:
Ashwagandha Tea:
Take 1 tsp of ashwagandha powder
Add it to a cup of hot water
Let it steep for 5-10 minutes
Strain and enjoy
Passionflower Tincture:
Take 2-4mL of passionflower tincture 3 times a day
Lavender Oil:
Add a few drops of lavender oil to a diffuser or add a few drops to your bath water before bedtime.
Note: As always, consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement or treatment, and make sure to purchase your herbs from reliable and credible sources. Also, be aware of any medicine interactions and dosage cautions.
