Part of the Hawera community since 1926, Cleggs Funeral Services started out as McCormick’s Funeral Services and was operated by Davy McCormick until his death. Michael Clegg purchased the funeral home in 1978 and in 1980 McCormick’s became the now well known Cleggs Funerals & Monuments. Michael Clegg operated Cleggs until his retirement in 2013. Glenn Rogers came into the business as a funeral director in 2014 and in 2021 became the new owner. He is your first point of contact and remains a dedicated servant to the South Taranaki community. Glenn is humbled to be able to support your family when you need us most. Located in central Hawera on High Street, South Taranaki Funeral Services are able to offer a range of funeral services for our families. We have a large, modern chapel and a very comfortable reception lounge which can provide full catering services. Our reputation for professional and caring service comes from our experienced funeral directors and support staff who are passionate and dedicated to ensure families can have peace of mind at a very difficult time. The owners and staff of South Taranaki Funeral Services extend their deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family of Petra. At the start of our business, Petra became part of our team as a contractor with her company CC Me and in doing so became a dedicated and lifelong friend. Her friendship, expertise, kindness, and desire to see others succeed; and to want the best for others and her community made her a true asset to South Taranaki and indeed our firm. Thank you, Petra for all you did for us, for your kind and caring nature, for always going the extra mile, and most of all for being the kind of friend any of us would count our blessings to have. You will be remembered with love by us always.

Glenn caught up with Reverend Gibbs from St Mary’s Anglican Church to chat about our upcoming Community Christmas Remembrance Service as well as the importance of counseling services with Te Ara Pae or another trusted service. If you are struggling, please reach out and ask for support, if you think someone else is struggling then please don’t be afraid to ask them as you may just save a life. If you have some time available and you’d like to attend our Remembrance Service then we’ll see you this Wednesday 6.30pm at the funeral home on High Street.

What we can do with a spare five minutes … we snuck this photo today while Glenn was out spraying the neighbours weeds! Unbelievable send off for an absolute top man (recently). Trucks rolled by, parking all arranged for them to send off their mate. TV's and audio outside. Just awesome.

Road safety is something that we should always be vigilant about, but like to give our friends an extra reminder about, every public holiday weekend. The roads are busier on public holiday weekends, many people choose to take the opportunity to travel. Please be careful when and if you’re out and about this weekend. We hope the sunshine hangs around!

Meet Sue.

Sue was born and raised here in Hāwera. She is both invested in and extremely dedicated to our community. Having started her working life in farming, the backbone of our community, she loves the heartland that is South Taranaki. Serving her community in business for over 30 years has enabled her to support and care for many of you over that time. Sue loves and is dedicated to her new role as our administrator and funeral assistant. It enables her to support and care for her community as a valued member of staff.

Glenn has lived in Hāwera for more than 11 years and for four of those, he has owned South Taranaki Funeral Services. Anyone who knows Glenn knows that he, as well as being a caring and supportive funeral director, is a caring and supportive member of our community. He pitches in wherever he can add value, we’re proud to be his team.

Glenn recently caught up with Garth Weir to chat about the importance of getting checked for prostate cancer. September is prostate cancer awareness month and a check can be as simple as a blood test. Men, please get checked! Everyone else, please encourage the men in your life to get checked!
