You don’t need to go to the beach to hear the waves. Just grab a seashell! 🐚🌊

That calming “ocean sound” you hear is not actually the sea, it is the science of sound. The unique curves and hollow chambers of a seashell act like a natural amplifier, capturing and resonating with ambient sounds around you.

From the hum of the room to the movement of air, as those sounds bounce and echo within the shell’s spiral shape, your ears perceive a deep, wave-like “whoosh,” mimicking the sound of the ocean itself.

Our experts are here to ensure you never miss the sounds that make life full and vibrant:

Not all water that gets into your ear can find its way out. 👂💦

While it is true that water often leaves the ear naturally, sometimes that lingering water can still get stuck due to earwax buildup or narrow ear canals. This creates the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and fungi, which can cause painful infections like swimmer’s ear.

Leaving trapped moisture untreated may do more harm than good. Let our specialists help you clear the problem safely and comfortably:

Most people's vocal cords can vibrate up to 200 times a second.

This vibration rate, also called frequency, can go higher, reaching 1000 vibrations per second for a soprano's highest notes. The vibration frequency of the vocal cords is what creates the sounds of our voice and its average can differ by factors like age and gender. Overuse, strain or illness can change how well they vibrate, affecting tone, strength and clarity.

Let us help you safeguard your vocal cords:

Wondering why only one nostril gets blocked when you are congested?

As it turns out, it is a normal part of your nasal cycle where your body naturally alternates airflow between your nostrils. While one side slightly swells and slows down airflow, the other opens up to take in more air. This back-and-forth rhythm helps your nose filter, warm and humidify the air you breathe more efficiently.

However, if one nostril always feels blocked, it could be a sign of allergies, sinus issues or a structural problem like a deviated septum.

That cough you have had for weeks? It might not just be “nothing.”

A persistent cough or constant throat irritation might seem like a harmless leftover from a cold. But sometimes, it is your body’s way of telling you something deeper is going on. It could be something serious like pneumonia, an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs.

Early diagnosis and prompt treatment can make all the difference. Schedule a thorough assessment with us today for peace of mind:

Losing your voice could cost you more than just your sound.

In the case of vocal cord paralysis, you lose the ability to control the muscle that moves one or both vocal cords. Not only does it lead to voice changes like hoarseness and breathiness, it can also affect the way you swallow which increases your risk of inhaling food or liquid into the lungs, and subsequently lead to respiratory complications such as pneumonia.

Keep your voice strong and your lungs safe with timely ENT care. Schedule yours today:

From British to American, why do singers sound the same on stage? 🎤🎶

People's accents often become less pronounced when singing because the fixed rhythm and melody of a song override the natural patterns of their speech. This forces them to stretch vowels and alter consonant sounds in a way that neutralises their accent and brings the voice closer to a universal sound.

Up to 80% of what we “taste” actually comes from our sense of smell.

When you eat, tiny odor molecules travel from your mouth to the olfactory receptors at the top of your nasal cavity. These receptors send signals to your brain that help identify complex flavours such as chocolate and grilled meat. That is why your favourite foods can suddenly taste bland or flavourless when you lose your ability to smell, also known as anosmia.

Think you are suffering from anosmia? Get checked with us today:

The medicine helping you heal could also be hurting your ears. 💊👂

Some medications, while effective for treating illnesses, can have hidden side effects that affect your hearing. This condition is called ototoxicity. Common culprits include certain antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs and high doses of aspirin which can damage the inner ear and lead to hearing loss, dizziness or balance problems.

That is why it is so important to use these medications under proper medical supervision and to monitor your hearing regularly, especially if you are on long-term treatment.

If you suspect that a medication you are taking may be affecting your hearing, consult our ENT specialists today:

Not all Halloween scares are visible, some are hiding in the air you breathe! 👻

Fog machines, smoke effects and heavily scented sprays may set the mood for a haunted atmosphere at parties, but they can also irritate your throat, lungs and sinuses! The particles they release often linger in the air, silently drying out your airways and triggering coughing, congestion, wheezing or even sinus flare-ups.

Take the necessary precautions to protect your health this spooky season. For more advice, get in touch:

Halloween thrills should not come with sinus chills. 🎃

While you are busy putting together your wicked fits and ghostly looks for a fun night of fright, the very elements of your costume — the masks, face paints, and even synthetic fabrics — could potentially trigger allergies or sinus issues. And nothing spoils a hauntingly good night like a stuffy nose.

Take a few simple precautions before you head out trick-or-treating, so the only thing that is scary is your costume. For more advice, get in touch:

Size does not matter when it comes to breathing better.

It is a common myth that wide nostrils guarantee easier airflow but the truth lies deeper inside your nose. Breathing efficiency depends far more on the internal shape and health of your nasal passages.

If the pathways inside your nose are blocked by swelling, a deviated septum or polyps, airflow can still be restricted no matter how big your nostrils look on the outside. Meanwhile, someone with smaller nostrils can breathe just fine if their nasal passages are clear.
