As the weekend passes, we’re reminded of our time at this year's Singapore Mental Health Conference, where participants united to empower lives through mental health advocacy for our sunny island nation.

Through our educational booth, we met so many local organisations and individuals who openly champion mental health. Through providing brain tissue samples for research, we too look forward to contributing to a healthier, more resilient Singapore.

This year’s NDP theme song says it well: “As we face the unknown, just know you’re never on your own.” Together, with our pledged donors, community and research partners, we work towards a Singapore that is empathetic and mentally strong. 🇸🇬 🧠❤️

We spent a lively morning at a block party last month, organised by Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital Active Ageing Centre (Potong Pasir) to bring seniors together through fun and connection.

We were glad to be part of it, sharing community spirit and raising awareness about the importance of post-mortem brain donation for research.

To close our World Brain Day series, we feature our BBS Director Assoc Prof Adeline Ng, who is also a neurologist at Neuroscience Institute . Beyond caring for patients and driving research, she’s also the 3rd person in Singapore to register as a brain donor, contributing to the welfare of future generations in the most personal way.

🧠 It's World Brain Day!
In part 2 of our 3-part series, Assoc Prof Ling shares why he became a brain donor—driven by both his research in aging and neurodegeneration, and a personal commitment to advancing brain science beyond his lifetime.

🧠 World Brain Day is around the corner, on 22 July!
To mark the occasion, we’re sharing a special 3-part video series featuring individuals from the neurology field who have made a deeply personal decision to register as brain donors.

First up is Assoc Prof Nigel Tan, a clinician educator who pledged to donate his brain in 2023. He is passionate about teaching and the wonderful ways in which the brain changes.

We were honoured to share about our work at the Brain Bank Singapore with the inspiring alumni of Voices for Hope, an empowerment programme for persons with dementia and their care partners.

We spoke about how brain donations in Singapore can contribute to dementia research—and how each donation is a gift of hope for future generations. 💜🧠

Bus interchanges can be more than just transit points—they’re great for raising awareness too! On 31 May, we marked with Multiple Sclerosis Society Singapore and Tower Transit Singapore at Sembawang Interchange.

This year’s theme, “Diagnosis,” highlights the need for earlier and more accurate identification of Multiple Sclerosis. The team at MSSS helped bust common myths and shed light on both the physical and cognitive impacts of MS.

It was also a chance for us to spark conversations about brain donation, another way to advance MS research and improve future care. Special thanks to donor Debbie for volunteering with us. Always grateful for opportunities like these!🚌🧡🧠

About Brain Bank Singapore

Brain Bank Singapore is a partnership between Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, National Neuroscience Institute, and National Healthcare Group. The centre, which was officially launched on 27th November 2019, has been set up to provide a national resource of post-mortem brain and spinal cord tissues for vital research into disorders affecting the human brain. Together with our community partners and various hospitals, we educate the community and raise awareness of the need for brain tissues for important clinical research, from both healthy individuals as well as patients with neurological conditions. Tissue donations are vital to increase medical knowledge to better diagnose, prevent, treat, and cure conditions that affect the brain. The health and hopes of future generations rest on the discoveries that will be made possible by tissue donation!
