It’s 27 November, our 6th anniversary! 💜🧡🩵 Today, we celebrate all our pledged brain donors, the heart (and brain) of our work.

Let’s take a little journey through time with seven donor stories, one from each year since we were set up in 2019. While we are not able to showcase all 500+ donors, each one of you is deeply appreciated.

As October comes to a close, we’re looking back at our feature in The Straits Times earlier this month and sharing some behind-the-scenes moments from the shoot.

We’re grateful to Chen Jun for opening up about his wish to contribute to medical science not just in life, but beyond it. His generosity and hope for future breakthroughs are truly inspiring.

We recently hosted our second Clinico-pathological Conference on 22 Sep, where a donor’s brain was studied in depth to share unique findings with the medical community.

Dr Quak Zhi Xuan (Consultant, Neurology, NUH) presented the donor’s clinical history, Dr Shermyn Neo (Senior Consultant, Neurology, NNI) discussed the symptoms and diagnosis, and our neuropathologist Dr Javier Alegre-Abarrategui (Neuropathologist, Imperial College London) shared how the post-mortem brain revealed further insights.

We’re thankful for the 68 clinicians, researchers, and nurses from 8 institutions across 3 countries who joined us in learning together.

Thank you Society Singapore for inviting us back to this year’s Move To Beat Parkinson! We were glad to add to the vibrant energy through our booth, meeting PD warriors, caregivers, and the wider community.👣

Truly inspiring to see PD warriors dancing, singing, and moving together. Extra special to share this time with our amazing volunteers, Debbie and Grace! 🙌

About Brain Bank Singapore

Brain Bank Singapore is a partnership between Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, National Neuroscience Institute, and National Healthcare Group. The centre, which was officially launched on 27th November 2019, has been set up to provide a national resource of post-mortem brain and spinal cord tissues for vital research into disorders affecting the human brain. Together with our community partners and various hospitals, we educate the community and raise awareness of the need for brain tissues for important clinical research, from both healthy individuals as well as patients with neurological conditions. Tissue donations are vital to increase medical knowledge to better diagnose, prevent, treat, and cure conditions that affect the brain. The health and hopes of future generations rest on the discoveries that will be made possible by tissue donation!
