Using simple finger exercises from Sithilikarana Vyayama, I’m helping a client improve joint mobility and reduce inflammation caused by arthritis. These subtle yet intentional movements help maintain function and reduce discomfort in everyday tasks.

Parighasana or Gate Pose – A Stretch That Opens New Possibilitiesā€
Parighasana comes from the Sanskrit words Parigha (परिघ) = gate latch and Asana (आसन) = pose.

This pose stretches the body sideways like a swinging gate, symbolizing openness and the power to release blockages.
The Gate Pose is wonderful for unlocking space in the side body, ribcage, and lungs. It creates freedom in the breath and a grounded sense of expansion.
When you practice Gate Pose slowly, breathing into every inch of the stretch, you’ll feel more spacious and centered—both physically and emotionally.

Why I love this pose:
It connects breath to body and teaches us to move into the space we often forget exists.

Benefits:
Increases lateral mobility in the spine
Opens the side body and intercostal muscles
Stretches hamstrings and groins
Stimulates digestion and lung expansion
Improves spinal flexibility and posture

Limitations:
Rib or lower back injuries.
