Melasma is often treated as a simple yes-or-no question: “Is this laser good or bad?” In reality, melasma treatment is rarely about the device itself.

Picosecond lasers are not inherently “bad” for melasma. When performed with the right technique, appropriate energy settings, and proper spacing between sessions, pico laser treatments have been shown in published studies to improve melasma safely.

Pigmentation is often talked about as if it’s one condition with one solution ❌ In reality, that’s rarely the case.

Epidermal pigmentation behaves very differently from dermal pigmentation. They form for different reasons, respond to different forms of energy, and require very different treatment strategies. What works well for one may be ineffective (or even worsen) for another.

Melasma is complex, stubborn, and can be triggered by everyday things you might not expect ⚠️ the wrong sunscreen ingredients, everyday heat (yes, cooking, and even hot saunas count), harsh skincare acids and fragrances, hormone fluctuations, and even certain aggressive laser treatments.

Look closer — literally under a microscope 🔬 — and you’ll find pigment-producing cells called melanocytes working overtime.
