Cataract is the clouding of the eye’s natural lens, and can develop gradually over time in different stages:

𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 – The natural eye lens remains clear, but subtle vision changes may start to appear.

𝗜𝗺𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 – The clouding of the lens becomes more apparent and with more noticeable vision changes.

𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 – The eye lens is almost completely opaque and may appear yellow or brownish. Daily activities such as driving and reading become increasingly challenging.

A cataract occurs when the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy and is commonly associated with ageing.

As the clouding worsens over time, less light will be able to enter the retina, causing vision to gradually become obstructed.
