Would you believe it if I tell you that tiny piece of plastic on Jacob’s finger is what helps him wake up with clear vision every morning without the need of wearing glasses?
Let us introduce to you Orthokeratology aka Ortho-k, a treatment involving the use of a customised lens that gently reshape the cornea and corrects refractive errors such as Myopia and astigmatism.

Apart from the convenience of not having to wear glasses, another key reason we fit Ortho-k is for the purpose of combating increasing Myopia. Studies have shown that Orthokeratology has a high efficacy in preventing Myopia progression.
8-year-old Jacob has successfully completed his first month of Ortho-k treatment with our optometrist, and his recent eye examination showed that his unaided visual acuity is now 6/6 in the day without glasses/contact lenses. (His pre-treatment Myopia was -4.00 Dioptres with astigmatism of -1.75 Dioptres). Though we are very happy with this result, our optometrist is still closely monitoring Jacob’s corneal health as he has mild Epiblepharon, a condition whereby an extra fold of skin pushes his lower eyelashes inwards and rubs on his cornea. But fortunately, most children may grow out of this condition as their facial structure matures.
