Colore**al cancer is the most common cancer in Singapore, with the number of colore**al cancer cases steadily increasing in both men and women.

Over the weekend, Dr. Sim Hsien Lin spoke to the senior community residents of Hougang at Hougang Community Club (CC) to highlight the importance of early screening and detection to reduce one’s risk of colore**al cancer.

Organised by Hougang CC and supported by Singapore Cancer Society (SCS), this Mandarin talk sought to engage the residents and promote primary screening via the distribution of Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) kits, which is a preliminary test that detects the presence of small amounts of blood in faeces, a possible symptom of Colore**al Disease.

In the early stages, iron deficiency can be so mild that it goes unnoticed. But as the body becomes more deficient in iron and the condition worsens, signs and symptoms will intensify. To bring your iron levels back to normal, your doctor may recommend that you:

✅ Consume foods that are rich in iron
✅ Eat more foods with Vitamin C for better iron absorption, and less foods and drinks that stop you absorbing iron
✅ Take iron tablets or liquid iron supplements

🔍 An a**l fistula is a small passage that forms between the a**l ca**l or lower part of the re**um and skin surrounding the a**s, due to a bacterial infection in the re**um. Such infection leads to a collection of abscesses (pus) in the surrounding re**al tissue. As the pus drains out, it leaves behind a tunnel (fistula).
