Welcome to Alive with Arts
I’m Vylasini, a heritage textile artist and educator based in Singapore, and the founder of Alive with Arts. This space is dedicated to keeping traditional textile crafts alive in everyday hands.
My journey has taken me to:
– Bagru, Rajasthan, where I trained in block printing with master artisans whose families have practised this craft for generations, creating 17 different types of hand-printed textiles during my time there.
– The Kalakshetra Foundation in Chennai, where I undertook structured training in block printing and kalamkari.
– Batik painting under Sam Karuna, a renowned contemporary batik artist who developed his own unique batik technique.
My batik work has also received international recognition through a Certificate of Artistic Achievement from the Luxembourg Art Prize 2025, awarded by the Pinacothèque museum.
Through Alive with Arts, I offer small-group, beginner-friendly workshops in:
– Heritage block printing on fabric (current focus)
– Batik colouring with pre-waxed designs (coming soon)
– Kalamkari-inspired story cloths (coming soon)
Workshops are designed to be:
– Gentle, mindful and hands-on
– Rooted in respect for the cultural traditions behind each craft
– Accessible to people with no prior art experience
