Regular presence matters in community geriatric care.
We make it a point to visit the nursing homes we serve to stay connected with nursing management, understand on-the-ground challenges, and see how we can better support the real backbone of nursing homes — the nursing team.

These visits are about partnerships, continuity, and alignment. When doctors, nurses, and management work closely together, residents receive more consistent, thoughtful, and dignified care.

One of my favourite things about Jamiyah Nursing Home is their orchid garden — a beautiful burst of colour and calm in the middle of daily hard work. It is a reminder that good care environments matter just as much as good clinical care.

Our community geriatric work does not stop at the clinic doors. It extends into nursing homes, alongside the teams who care for residents every single day.

Community care sometimes means meeting people where they already are.

We recently completed a health screening event conducted at , partnering with Vnguard, a volunteer-led initiative that focuses on bringing health screenings into Malay–Muslim community spaces such as mosques. Their work helps identify individuals with undiagnosed or poorly controlled chronic conditions early — before complications set in.

We screen them, pick up cases, and refer to their neighbourhood HealthierSG clinics for follow-up.
We were grateful to collaborate with student volunteers from NUS Pharmacy, together with volunteer pharmacists Zheng Kang, Yvette, and Anne, who supported screenings, medication-related discussions, and practical counselling for participants.

Thanks also to .diagnostics for sponsoring the test kits.

This is very much aligned with how we see community healthcare:
- Proactive rather than reactive
- Accessible rather than clinic-bound
- Culturally grounded and trusted
- Focused on keeping people healthier for longer

By partnering with community groups and using non-traditional settings, we can reach individuals who may not otherwise seek care — and intervene early, when it matters most.

This is community medicine in action.

Even with diabetes, you don’t necessarily have to sacrifice your obligation to fast this Ramadhan. With the blessed month fast approaching, we believe with knowledge comes power.

We’re now conducting a Diabetes and Ramadhan (DAR) clinic with guidelines set by the Diabetes & Ramadan (DAR) International Alliance, an umbrella organization of several diabetes associations in several countries and territories.

As part of this Clinic, we’ll monitor your current glucose levels as well as medication and assess your risk level. Then, we’ll work on a personalised plan that helps you to be able to fast, safely. We’ll also go over some dietary guidelines so you can be better prepared with your meal planning for sahur and iftar.

If you, or someone you know might benefit from this consult, sign up for the DAR clinic by 9 February!

With gratitude for the past year.
Our Founder, Imran Shah, and Dr Farhan Alami reflect on the work and the way forward.

For those quietly reflecting on a different way forward.

Where patients are people, not numbers.
And where presence, balance, and continuity still matter.

Care that starts with the person, not the list.
Medicine at a human scale.

We’re looking for a Geriatrician to join our mission-driven, community-based practice.

Our work spans clinic, in-patient, nursing homes, community hospitals, and home-based care, with shared responsibilities, flexible structure, and a strong focus on continuity and sustainability.

This role is perfect for physicians seeking a more present way to practice this year, choosing presence, balance, and meaning in the year ahead. If this resonates, we’d love to talk.

Over the past year, we’ve been quietly surprised (and grateful) by how much demand there is for community-based geriatric care.

We’re seeing more first visits, more enquiries, and more requests to support nursing homes, community hospitals, and families who want their loved ones cared for well - outside the hospital whenever possible.

It’s reaffirmed something we’ve believed for a long time: that keeping older adults well, supported, and dignified in the community isn’t just good medicine - it’s where continuity, trust, and meaning really live.

As Alami Clinic grows, we’re thinking carefully about how to build this work sustainably - not just for patients and families, but for clinicians too. Thoughtful pacing, shared responsibility, and practice models that allow people to do good work without burning out matter more than ever.

Because of this growth, we’re starting to explore whether it’s time to welcome another geriatrician into our team - someone who believes in community-based care and values teamwork and continuity.

If this kind of work resonates with you - or if you know someone who might be quietly exploring a different way of practising - we’d be happy to have a no-pressure conversation.

Growth is exciting. Building it well is the real work.

Here’s to a fulfilling year ahead!

With gratitude,
Imran Shah and Dr Farhan Alami

Alami Clinic was delighted to be part of the Health Screening & Awareness Programme on 8 November 2025!

Our pharmacists, Imran and Zheng Kang, alongside NUS Pharmacy students from VnGuard orchestrated a public health screening with the students conducting the screenings and the pharmacists from Alami Clinic performing the review. Our very own GP, Dr Zahran, also shared an informative health talk with residents.

We are grateful to work alongside VnGuard and Marine Parade CC MAEC to serve the community! Collaborations like this reflect our commitment to bringing quality healthcare directly to the ground. Special thanks to Buzud for sponsoring the blood glucose test strips!

Given the current rainy and travel season, we’ve been talking about the flu this month. Now, let’s talk treatment.

You may have wondered if there is any treatment for influenza other than the usual symptomatic meds such as antihisthamines.

Tamiflu (Oseltamivir) is an antiviral medication used to treat Influenza A and B.

It’s mainly recommended for those at higher risk of complications:
• Adults above 65
• People with chronic illnesses such as heart disease, asthma, COPD
• Those with a history of stroke

If you fall under these groups, Tamiflu can help reduce symptoms and prevent severe flu-related complications.

Still unsure if this is for you? Consult with your GP on your options!
