Blueberries are known for their many charms 😍 - they are a superfood for the brain, the heart, and the gut. One must not be fooled by their tiny size; they are also a wonderful source of antioxidants!
Now, here's how Wild Blueberries (low-bush variety) are the "better cousin". According to a post on Real Simple, which interviews Tricia Scott-Sahler, RDN, an oncology dietitian at Hackensack Meridian John Theurer Cancer Center, Wild Blueberries can have up to twice the antioxidant capacity of regular blueberries! 🤩🫐
Wild Blueberries have a higher concentration of a specific type of antioxidant called anthocyanins, which gives these berries their rich, beautiful blue pigment. The antioxidant is vital for protecting our cells from damage caused by free radicals and may contribute to many miraculous benefits, such as anti-ageing and reducing inflammation. ✨
“Unlike cultivated blueberries, which are planted and grown in rows, wild blueberries grow in harsh northern climates and have adapted to thrive in thin, acidic soils,” Scott-Sahler says. “This resilience has led to some remarkable nutritional advantages.”
