More about our distinguished conference delegate, Professor Jonathan M. Holmes.

Dr Holmes completed undergraduate studies at Cambridge University and medical school at Oxford University. After surgical and medical house jobs in Oxford and Amersham, Dr. Holmes moved to the USA where he completed a year of Pediatrics and then an Ophthalmology Residency at Loyola University Chicago. After a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at the University of Michigan, he returned to Loyola University Chicago as Assistant Professor. After 3 years at Loyola, he moved to Mayo Clinic Rochester Minnesota where he worked for 25 years, becoming the Chair of Ophthalmology from 2001-2009, and Joseph E. and Rose Marie Green Professor of Visual Sciences.

In 2020, Dr. Holmes moved to Tucson, Arizona, to take the position of Professor and Chair of Ophthalmology and Vision Science, University of Arizona-Tucson. Dr. Holmes’ clinical practice focuses on the surgical and nonsurgical management of complex strabismus in both children and adults, and in pediatric ophthalmology with a special interest in amblyopia. Dr. Holmes has authored or co-authored over 290 peer-reviewed articles. Funded by the National Institutes of Health in the U.S.A. for over 25 years, Dr. Holmes is currently Co-Chair of the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group, directing multicenter randomized clinical trials and observational studies to evaluate treatments for amblyopia, strabismus and other childhood eye diseases. Dr. Holmes also directs a research program focused on development and evaluation of new patient-reported outcome measures, specifically for strabismus and diplopia in adults and for children across the spectrum of childhood eye conditions.

More about our distinguished conference delegate, Clinical Professor Peter Dolman.

Peter Dolman is a clinical professor at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada and is on active staff at five hospitals. He was the interim department head at Vancouver Acute Hospital, is currently UBC division head and fellowship director of oculoplastics and orbit, and a past president of the BC Society of Eye Physicians and the Canadian Society of Oculoplastics and Reconstructive Surgeons. He is a past-president of the International Thyroid Eye Disease Society and a member of the Orbit Society. He has supervised over 65 international oculoplastics fellows, has delivered over 300 invited lectures, and published 25 chapters and over 150 journal articles. He recently co-edited a textbook entitled “Diseases and Disorders of the Orbit and Ocular Adnexa”. He has volunteered as a surgeon or lecturer in 40 nations and has received several departmental research and teaching awards, the American Society of Oculoplastics and Reconstructive Surgery research award, the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Merit Award, and the Queen Elizabeth Gold Medal for community service.

More about our distinguished conference delegate, Clinical Associate Professor Kelvin Chong.

Professor Kelvin Chong’s clinical and research interests span from orbital (thyroid eye, tumor, trauma), oculoplastic (lacrimal, eyelid, socket) to ocular surface disorders and related translational studies. He is the Chief of the Orbital and Oculoplastic Surgery Division, the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the Prince of Wales Hospital as well as the Clinical Director of the Eye Centre, CUHK Medical Center.

He serves as the current Education Secretary of the International Thyroid Eye Disease Society (ITEDS), the Past President of Hong Kong Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (HKSOPRS). He pioneered the first Thyroid Eye Clinic in HK which was awarded as the Hospital Authority-New Territories East Cluster Outstanding Team: “TEC@NTEC” (2020). He was awarded APAO Senior Achievement Award from the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (2023), Top Surgical Video Award in the World Ophthalmology Congress (2018), Distinguished Young Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine(2014), Achievement Awards from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (2013), the best surgical videos in American Academy of Ophthalmology (2011, 2010) and the Endocrine Society’s International Award for Excellence in published clinical research (2011). He has published over 60 peer-reviewed articles and 10 book chapters. He obtains over HK$24million competitive research grant over the past 5 years.

More about our distinguished conference delegate, Professor Lelio Baldedschi.

Professor Lelio qualified in Medicine with cm laude at the University of Pisa and graduated in Ophthalmology cm laude at the University of Florence. He attained his PhD at the University of Amsterdam and Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO) in Paris. He sub-specialized in oculoplastic and orbital surgery first under the guidance of Richard Collin at Moorfields Eye and Leo Koornneef at the Orbital Centre, University of Amsterdam. He subsequently became a Consultant surgeon at Universitary Docent (UD), before being nominated Director of the Orbital Centre, University of Amsterdam.

Currently, he holds multiple appointments as the Professor of Ophthalmology, Director to the “Orbita and Ocular Adnexal service” and President to the PhD Council “Oculoplastic, Orbital, Lacrimal Diseases and Surgery” at the Department of Ophthalmology, Catholic University of Louvain, Saint Luc Academic Hospital of Brussels, a member of the Examining Commission of the EBO.

He provides oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery training to medical students, residents and twenty international fellows. He also had the opportunity to publish in the field of orbital and ocular adnexal diseases. He is a member of the scientific advisory board, an invited speaker / faculty member and organizer for multiple international congresses and courses. He is a reviewer and editor of multiple ophthalmic, maxillo-facial, and internal medicine journals. He also serves as a visiting Professor to several European, North American and Asian universities. He continues to contribute towards education globally as a Reviewer Committee member at the EBO, reviewing the textbook “Basic and Clinical Science Course Section 7 “Orbit, Eyelids, and Lacrimal System” of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is member of the SOI, ESOPRS, EVER, honorary member of the APSOPRS, Secretary and President ISD&DE. He was also President for SICOP, Secretary and the current president of EUGOGO.

More about our Organizing Committee Member, Dr Livia Teo.

Dr Livia Teo is a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist who graduated on the Dean’s list from the National University of Singapore and was awarded book prizes in Surgery and Dermatology. She obtained Fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. She received gold medals as the top candidate in Oculoplastic and Adnexal Disease as well as Corneal and Refractive Surgery. She is a recipient of the Health Manpower Development Plan award, and further advanced her training and completed Oculoplastics Fellowships at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, USA and Severance Hospital, Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea.

Dr Teo has expertise in managing a range of eye conditions including cataract, glaucoma, retina conditions like age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, myopia and dry eyes. She has a special interest in paediatric and adult ptosis and related eyelid conditions like entropion, epiblepharon, chalazions and eyelids tumours. She also specialises in ophthalmic plastics and reconstructive surgery of the face and orbit and manages orbital conditions e.g. thyroid eye disease, fractures and tumours of the orbit, and performs lacrimal surgery for blocked nasolacrimal ducts and lacrimal duct tumours. She also performs regular eye screening for common eye diseases.

For our conference, Dr Livia will be giving the Alcon lunchtime lecture on 27th May. She will also be chairing the 2pm academic session on the same day. Stay tuned!

Dr Yong graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree in 2006. She completed Ophthalmology residency at the Singapore National Eye Centre and obtained the Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) from NUS in 2012. She obtained specialist accreditation in Ophthalmology in 2016 and was conferred fellowship by Academy of Medicine (College of Ophthalmology).

Dr Yong completed her subspecialty training in Oculoplastics in Singapore and was awarded the Ministry of Health (MOH) Health Manpower Development Plan postgraduate scholarship in 2019 to pursue further training in periocular cancer and paediatric orbital diseases. She completed her honorary fellowship (Oculoplastic) in both Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, and Queensland Children Hospital under the preceptorship of Professor Timothy Sullivan. At the same time, she was an accredited surgical assistant in Queensland Eye Hospital, Saint Andrews War Memorial Hospital and Greenslopes Hospital. Dr Yong was also appointed as adjunct clinical tutor in Ophthalmology for University of Queensland Medical School, faculty of Medicine.

Dr Yong’s research interest lies in oculoplastic diseases. She has presented her work in numerous local and overseas conferences and has published in several peer-reviewed literature. Dr Yong’s current clinical practice includes cataract, comprehensive ophthalmology as well as Oculoplastic, Orbital and Lacrimal Surgery.

More about our Organizing Committee Member, Dr Stephanie Young.

Dr Young has a special interest in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids, lacrimal system and orbit. She is particularly interested in eyelid surgery for functional and cosmetic indications, and treats many patients with droopy eyelids, eyelid malpositions, double eye lid creation and more.She is also well-versed in General Ophthalmology and manages conditions such as dry eyes, tearing, and performs screening for eye disorders like cataracts, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.

With over 10 years of clinical experience combining the micro-precision of ophthalmic surgery, with the aesthetic concepts of facial plastic surgery, Dr Young is considered the ‘go-to’ doctor by patients seeking natural looking bespoke eyelid and facial rejuvenation. She receives many referrals from medical colleagues and word-of-mouth referrals from her own patients. She treats each patient with respect and care, and customizes her treatment according to the patient’s needs and preferences.

She strongly believes in giving back actively to society and sits on the executive committee of the Singapore Women’s Association, and is the chairperson of its Singapore Visioncare Programme which provides free eye screening events for the community. She has also been on several cataract and Oculoplastic trips to remote areas in need of eyecare in China, Myanmar and Cambodia.

Dr Young is active in Oculoplastic-related research and has published more than 40 papers on the subject in peer-reviewed journals and several book chapters. In her undergraduate days, she won the Gold Medal and Book Prize in Ophthalmology, and received a Distinction Award for Ophthalmology-related research for her Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program.

More about our Organizing Committee Member, Dr Gillian Teh.

Dr Teh is an Consultant at the Singapore National Eye Centre. She graduated from the Royal Free and University College Medical School in London with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree in 2007. She subsequently pursued specialist training at the Singapore National Eye Centre and was appointed chief Registrar in 2011. She completed her Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology in 2012 and qualified as a specialist in Ophthalmology in 2016, being conferred as Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore Ophthalmology the same year.

Dr Teh is passionate about teaching and is regularly involved in training allied health professionals, having conducted Graduate Diploma courses for ophthalmic nurses. She has also been lecturer and course instructor in multiple microsurgical courses for trainee ophthalmologists and holds an appointment as adjunct clinical faculty with Duke-NUS. Her research work has also been presented at both local and international scientific conferences.

She is actively involved in community work and is a committee member of the Philanthropy and Development committee at the Singapore National Eye Centre.

Dr Teh has a strong interest in Oculoplastic and Orbital conditions and is presently undergoing further subspeciality training under the Advanced Clinical Specialist Program.

More about our Organizing Committee Member, Dr Tan Licia.

Dr Tan Licia is a Consultant at the Singapore National Eye Centre under the Oculoplastic and Cataract & Comprehensive Ophthalmology Department.

Dr Tan attended medical school at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at National University of Singapore as a Public Commission Service Merit scholar where she was awarded the Benjamin Chew Gold Medal in Medical Ethics, and subsequently completed her residency training in ophthalmology at Singapore National Eye Centre. She obtained her Masters in Medicine (Ophthalmology) in 2016, Ophthalmology Specialist accreditation in 2018, and was conferred Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmology in the same year.

She took on various leadership and administrative roles, representing Ophthalmology on the SingHealth Residents’ Committee, serving as the SingHealth Ophthalmology Chief Resident from 2016 to 2018, and was selected as one of the chief residents to represent SingHealth at the Singapore Chief Residency Programme from 2016-2017. She was then appointed as Chief Resident at Singapore National Eye Centre in 2019. During her residency training, she was awarded the SingHealth Outstanding Resident Award twice. She also received the SingHealth Award for Quality Improvement Project in 2016 for her work on improving patient workflow and waiting times.

More about our Organizing Committee Member, Dr Lim Lee Hooi.

Dr Lim Lee Hooi is a Consultant in Cataract and Comprehensive Ophthalmology and she subspecialises in the field of Eyelid, Lacrimal, Orbit and Reconstructive Surgery.

Born in Malaysia, she was awarded the ASEAN scholarship in 1990 and 1992 to study in Singapore. An old girl of Raffles Girls’ Secondary School and Raffles Junior College, she went on to complete her medical studies in the University of Melbourne in 1999. Upon graduation, she returned to Singapore for her internship and training in Ophthalmology.

She obtained her Masters in Medicine - Ophthalmology (M.Med) from NUS in 2005 and was admitted as a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd) in 2009. She joined the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS) in 2013.

In 2008, she was awarded the Ministry of Health Scholarship for her training in Ophthalmology. She completed her fellowship on Eyelid, Lacrimal, Orbit and Reconstructive Surgery with Professor Don Kikkawa and Professor Bobby Korm at the University of California, San Diego in 2012.

Upon returning from fellowship, she is a keen educationist and was involved in the teaching of residents in Ophthalmology. She was part of the Core Faculty of the Residency Programme in Singapore National Eye Centre and was an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the National University of Singapore and Duke-NUS Postgraduate School of Medicine.

She still returns to Singapore National Eye Centre and KK Children’s and Women’s Hospital as a Visiting Consultant. She is also the current Treasurer of the Singapore Society of Ophthalmology.

Dr Lim enjoys the outdoors and staying active. She captained the canoeing team of Raffles Junior College in her school days. Now married with two children, she dedicates her free time to her children and shares the joy of growing up with them.
