It's been awhile since this has been done...taking some memories from learning cooking from my mum to now being able to innovate, modify and make use of new ingredients to make a braised dish that can be both a vegetarian version to a regular version for regular dinners to festival dishes!

Vegetarian version:
Lion mane mushrooms
Morel mushrooms
Black fungus
Lily bulb
Vegetable of choice. I like to use snow peas or brocoli.

Regular version:
Lean meat
Lion mane mushrooms
Black fungus
Whole garlic bulbs
White pepper and chilli
Vegetable of choice. Still snow peas and maybe white radish and carrots

Festive version:
Basically your regular version...topped with sliced braised abalone or scallops! Sprinkle some wolfberries or sliced red dates and it's all ready.

Yes yes yes, it's still bagel time. It's the bagel baking mood at the moment. Recently gifted a mix of sea salt, lime leaves and pepper mix...and decided to use it as the flavour for the bagel today.

All cooking or baking done is with a belief that there must always be an exciting if not fairly innovative twist to it, may it be from using different techniques or ingredients or side accompaniments (in this case is home made no added sugar strawberry jam - it's not no sugar, just no added sugar, there is a difference here). Pepper and jam...surprisingly it goes superbly well...sweet edge with a hint of pepper heat creating a nice balance.

Cooking or baking is a learning experience and this is a joy to keep learning, trying new things and it benefits us as dietitians when we know the know-how before being able to translate the information and knowledge to our patients/clients.

Have a lovely to everyone and always keep in mind...never let the learning curve stop... !

When you don't have a sizzling hotplate at home, just use a regular pan to make an egg tofu dish topped with spicy lean minced and edamame. Finishing off with a generous garnish of coriander!

Might have just a tad overcooked the egg and tofu that it came out like a 'pizza' base...unintentional totally. Also realise today's dish have been crammed with not one or two but FOUR protein sources! Can you see them?

All that is really needed is a side plate of stir fry veg and a bowl of brown rice and this lunch is complete to go! Sometimes simplicity is the best and home cooked food can be such comfort, economical and full of nourishment too.

It's been so long since the last time baking was done! Decided to get on with it with some special people in town. So, made some Lemon Zest Bagels, keeping it simple and back to basics. Thank goodness it was a success. It made us remember that baking is such a good activity to relax, zone in and refocus.

Happy Mother's Day!!! This year, celebrations are about togetherness, making meaningful conversations and sharing and loving! What better way to have homemade popiah (local crepes) and we can put in stewed turnips, prawns, various garnishes and greens and it's a great way to incorporate different variety of ingredients into a meal.
