Of men up to age of 85, one in six males will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. Prostate cancer in its early stages often shows no symptom, making it difficult to detect. When symptoms do appear, it is normally due to non-cancerous conditions affecting the prostate. When a patient is referred to the urologist with suspicion of prostate cancer, it is typically an elevated PSA. PSA is, however, not a diagnostic test; it's just a red flag.

The next step usually is to get a multi parametric MRI. The radiologist will analyse and give a score, known as the PI-RAD score. The score tells how suspicious any lesion is in the prostate, for the urologist to come to a final decision as to whether to proceed to a biopsy or not.
