At the recent Zeiss Singapore Refractive Summit Meeting, I was invited to share and gave a talk on my excellent experience with the Zeiss Visumax 800 femtolaser, which I happily use almost everyday at work to treat myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia in conjunction with Zeiss excimer laser.

It was wonderful to reconnect with friends and ex-colleagues too. A great meeting by Zeiss, as usual!

May I also take the opportunity to wish LSC Eye Clinic (one of the first movers in putting its faith in RELEX SMILE and the Visumax laser/ 10 years of SMILE and 20 years of LASIK) a Happy 20th Anniversary!

Our menagerie in the LASIK OT! A CNY baby dragon added to our growing collection!

Fear and anxiety are real in the OT especially when patient needs to stay very still and surgery is under topical anesthesia and very minimal sedation, for a quick recovery. A toy to squeeze in the hands definitely helps, as well as the really quick laser time offered by our Zeiss VisuMax 800, for SMILE PRO and LASIK.

Today, I gave the Visumax 500 femtolaser a huge kiss and hug (as much as one can for a piece of machine) after a full day at LSC Eye Clinic laser suite, alternating between lasik and smile on the Visumax 500.

VM500 is the lasik flap creator, and not a mechanical blade, that I used for my first ever case of lasik at SNEC circa 2009 (thank you to the many giants and my ex-mentors there!) I dare say it made me fall in love with refractive surgery as a career.

Through the years I also had the experience (kinda in a backward way, since I already started with the spanking new VM500 then) of performing lasik using the B&L microkeratome, the Intralase laser, the Ziemer Z4 and then the Z8 lasers (the Z8 for Ziemer’s CLEAR too). None really compared to the gentleness and ease of use of the Visumax.

Now that we are on the verge of retiring this grand dame of a laser and welcoming the new 800 model, here’s a huge thank you to all who made it possible. And to our lasik/ smile patients to come, congratulations, lucky you!! 🌈😃

E-poster on our results of a new femto laser lenticule extraction treatment for myopia and astigmatism using the Swiss laser (Ziemer Z8) from my previous work.

Presented at the 35th Congress of the Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons held at Suntec convention centre, Singapore.

Late enhancement such as for presbyopia treatment or myopia regression after previous LASIK surgeries eg 10-15 years ago is often a bit challenging when no records are available, as there may be uncertainties regarding the depth of previous LASIK layers.

We recently performed quite a number of late LASIK enhancements for patients with no previous records (eg from other countries or other clinics) using a rather unique method.

Making only a new side-cut using the Circle software on our Zeiss Visumax laser, we could access the old LASIK layer much more neatly, without having to create more new layers and possibly sacrifice more corneal thickness and strength. Vision results were very encouraging!

Very honored to be invited by Zeiss to receive this lovely plaque on behalf of LSC Eye Clinic, commemorating 4000 cases of Relex Smile surgeries completed, a feat unsurpassed in Singapore.

Rome wasn’t built in one day nor by one person. I look forward to continuing the fantastic work in bringing better vision to more patients with the amazing Visumax laser with team LSC. Congratulations!

Spent my birthday at work together with team LSC, fixing eyes with myopia astig hyperopia presbyopia with the Zeiss laser suite (and cataracts dry eyes infections etc etc). And that is truly a treat by itself already.

Thankful for the little cake (coz team has to help eat up more cake from me next day!)

Thankful for the candle too, so that I can make a wish for all my eye patients. May all see well, good sight be blessed on all!

A reconstructive case in which I was invited by a fellow eye surgeon to repair the torn iris.

Pseudopolycoria, or an additional artificial pupil can cause visual disturbance and even split images. This one was due to an overly squeezy eye during previous cataract op.

Few stitches under general anaesthesia using a long rounded needle with Siepser slip knots did the trick of plicating the unwanted extra hole. Good results as it resolved the disturbing shadows.
