2025 has been a year of deep gratitude and quiet milestones.

From classrooms to hospitals, radio studios to tech companies, humanitarian spaces to sacred halls, Iโ€™ve had the privilege of sharing somatic work and dance as a language for healing, communication, and human connection.

I sat in conversations I once only dreamed of, taught alongside teachers I revere, witnessed students meet themselves with courage, and held space for communities I deeply care for - from cancer survivors to volunteers, leaders, trainers, and fellow practitioners.

After 26 years in this work, Iโ€™m reminded again and again that dance is not just art. Dance IS medicine, relationship, and remembrance.

Thank you to everyone who trusted me with their bodies, stories, and journeys. I carry you with me in my hearts and my cells into 2026 with an even greater dedication to serve. ๐Ÿค

To all students, clients, partners, friends, loved ones and those yet to be.

Let us take this time to give thanks, reflect for all the beautiful people, educational moments and inspiring events that have helped us to love better and growth stronger.

May we continue to extend our care, give joy and love during this festive season and for the new year that's coming.

I wish you all the Merriest Christmas filled with warmth, peace and everlasting joy wrapped in the blanket of L.O.V.E.

Yours,
Vincent Yong

The Pursuit of Perfection Vs The Strive of Excellence

A lot of requirements are imposed on beginning dancers when they dance. Lines, beats, rhythm, expression, you name it... They are overwhelmed even with just coordinating their arms and legs. Worse, they are sometimes chided too. How can they not shy away from dancing? How are they supposed to enjoy dancing?

In DFTโ„ข, the focus is on the relationship one has with themselves - Body, Emotion, Mind and Environment (B.E.M.Eโ„ข Model). This model is derived after 25 years of teaching, research and development and it helps beginner dancers clarify what pillars of themselves they would like to work on, what they would like to refine and how they'd like to integrate into their existing self.

If you want a mental breakthrough, I suggest you give DFTโ„ข a go and discover how you can allow joy, discovery and learning to coexist.

By the way, humility has a big part to play too.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Communicating with Influence for Collaboration

On 29 Oct evening, I had the privilege of facilitating a workshop for esteemed trainers at the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL) under their Special Interest Group (SIG). The workshops was joined by the groupโ€™s past ambassador. I want to thank Kris Loy for the invitation to present and lead the session, Andrea Chan, co-chair, Nisha and also my co-presenter, Krystin Kee. Also want to thank all my supporters who are there plus the esteemed trainers who are attendees of this presentation.

Our theme was โ€œCommunicating with Influence for Collaboration.โ€
My approach: experiential, embodied, and just-be-real.

I introduced the S.O.F.T.โ„ข Approach, a somatic model for artful communication and influence:
๐ŸŒฟ Slow Down โ€” regulate your state before responding.
๐Ÿ‘€ Observe โ€” sense whatโ€™s truly being communicated beyond words.
๐ŸŒŠ Flow โ€” stay adaptive and connected under pressure.
๐Ÿ”— Tag โ€” align and build bridges through resonance, not resistance.

Through somatic activities, participants engaged both mind and body, tuning in to how their physiological state sets the tone for collaboration even before a single word is spoken.

I heard some feedback from โ€œreally immersiveโ€,
โ€œwell done and reflexiveโ€ and it meant a lot to me as these were seasoned trainers (I come from a different space, the performing arts and therapy). It's affirming to know they saw the reflexivity I was aiming to convey in live communication moments.

A highlight was the exercise called โ€œGive Me Your Worstโ€, a realtime conflict resolution, where participants learned to turn verbal attacks or high-stakes tension into responsive, grounded presence. Watching how awareness shifted dynamics in real time was profound.

---

๐Ÿ’ญ Reflection for leaders and HR professionals:
When communication gets tough โ€” do you notice what your body is doing before you respond?
And what could change in your workplace culture if more conversations began from a S.O.F.T. place rather than a defensive one?
