Cerebral visual impairment (CVI) is a form of visual dysfunction commonly seen in children that affects visual processing due to damage to the visual centres of the brain.

Most cases of CVI result from damage to the brain occurring before, during or shortly after childbirth.

Other contributing factors that damage the visual areas of the brain, like stroke, brain malformation or infection, and head trauma can also increase one's likelihood of developing CVI.

Diabetes doesn’t just affect blood sugar levels—it can silently damage your vision too.

The effects of high blood glucose levels can damage the small blood vessels in the retina, causing them to swell or leak fluid, or result in the abnormal growth of new blood vessels.

These abnormal new blood vessels may run the risk of rupturing and cause significant bleeding that can lead to permanent blindness. They can also cause retinal detachment, leading to vision loss.

Other eye diseases are also more likely to develop in diabetes, including cataract and glaucoma.

Most eye conditions only present with symptoms in later stages when significant damage to vision has occurred, making regular eye checks vital for the population at large.

Regular eye screenings help to safeguard eye health and aid in the early detection and prevention of vision-threatening conditions like:
