To get your child to use more words,
❌ Asking questions
✅ Model language

When you model language, your child learns the words and picks up what they can say to communicate!

For kids who have yet to start talking or are just using single words, shorten your language models.
⭐ Use single words or 2 word combinations to talk about
- What you are doing (e.g Pour. Mummy pour. Pour water.)
- What your child is doing or looking at (e.g Car! Push!)

Try this strategy and follow for more speech therapy tips!

Autism: Same Diagnosis, Different Child 💙

Two children can have the same autism diagnosis…
and look completely different.

One child may speak in full sentences.
Another may use few or no words.

One may cope well in a classroom.
Another may feel overwhelmed by noise, routines, or transitions.

👉 That’s because autism is a spectrum.

It’s not a single profile.
It’s a wide range of strengths, needs, and ways of experiencing the world.

When we take the time to understand each child individually, we can support them in ways that actually make a difference.

Because behind every diagnosis…
is a unique child with their own way of learning, communicating, and growing.

Autism is a developmental difference that affects how a child communicates, interacts, and experiences the world.

But there are still many misunderstandings.

👉 Autism IS:
• A difference in how the brain processes information
• A spectrum. So every child presents differently!

👉 Autism is NOT:
• Caused by poor parenting
• Something a child will “just grow out of”
• Always visible to the untrained eye

Every child with autism has their own strengths, challenges, and way of learning.

When we move away from myths and toward understanding, we’re better able to support them in ways that actually help. 💙

World Autism Awareness Month 💙
Every child experiences the world in their own unique way.

When we shift our perspective from “fitting in” to “supporting each child to thrive”, we create space for confidence, connection and real learning.

This Autism Awareness Month, let’s continue building a world where every child is seen, heard and appreciated.
Just as they are.

As adults, we sometimes are so eager to get our child to speak, so we ask questions, prompt, and fill up every moment of silence.

A small change can make a big difference. And you can do this by using The Power Of Waiting.

“When I talk less, my child speaks more?” Sounds counterintuitive. But here’s why.

When you pause, and wait. It gives a natural signal to your child that “It’s your turn to speak.” Your child learns to initiate and starts telling you what they see, feel and experience. You find out what they are trying to tell you and then that’s the moment you can tap on to grow their language!

Nurturing active communicators start with this technique!

Every week, parents sit across from me and share their worries.

“My child is struggling with reading.”
“They’re falling behind in school.”
“Teachers say they’re not paying attention.”

Sometimes they tell me something that breaks my heart.

“My child is being teased.”

Children with dyslexia are often misunderstood.

They may be labeled as lazy or careless when in reality they are trying incredibly hard.

This video beautifully explains what dyslexia really is and what many children experience in school.

It also reminds us that children with learning differences often have incredible strengths when given the right support.

Awareness and understanding can change the way we support these children.

If you’re a parent, teacher, or work with children, I encourage you to watch it.

Because every child deserves to feel understood.

Part 2 of our Early Literacy Series: Print Awareness in Our Daily Life

Most parents think reading begins with phonics.

But long before that, children are learning that print has meaning. They learn by this when looking at logos, signs, packaging and everyday labels.

Next time you're at the supermarket or taking the MRT, try this:
👉 Ask your child, “What does this say?”
👉 Point out familiar logos.
👉 Have them guess what the sign means.

That’s early literacy in action.

Most parents think reading starts with phonics.

But literacy foundations begin much earlier. It starts when children first learn how books and print work.

By age 4–5, children typically understand that:
• Print carries meaning
• Letters form words
• Words represent spoken language

When these foundations are unclear, reading can feel harder later on.

This is Part 1 of our Early Literacy Series.
