HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) uses focused ultrasound to induce collagen shrinkage, regeneration and remodelling in the dermis, leading to tighter skin and reduced wrinkles and lines. It is also the only non-invasive skin tightening technology that can pe*****te deep into the dermis to tighten SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system) which is normally only accessible through a surgical facelift. Hence, HIFU is often referred to as a non-surgical facelift. HIFU treatment is a good alternative for patients who are not ready for plastic surgery.

SkinTyte™ from Sciton, uses infra-red light which is absorbed by water deep in the dermis. Heat is generated, causing damage to dermal collagen fibres and stimulating a healing response that leads to the production of new collagen (neocollagenosis) and remodelling, resulting in tighter skin and reduced wrinkles and lines. SkinTyte is non-invasive meaning ot does not involve cutting or inserting needles into the skin.

Non-invasive skin tightening devices all work by heating the dermis (deep layer of the skin). Heat causes collagen shrinkage and denaturation. Collagen denaturation stimulates neocollagenosis (new collagen production) and collagen remodelling. Together these processes result in tighter skin and reduced wrinkles and lines. Examples of non-invasive skin tightening procedures include:
• Forever Young BroadBand Light (FYBBL)™• SkinTyte™ • Protege Elite Radiofrequency Treatment • HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound)
