NTU School of Biological Sciences Nanyang Technological University, Singapore - School of Biological Sciences The School of Biological Sciences was established in July 2001.

The field of life sciences has been widely acknowledged as the next major technological revolution after the Internet. New knowledge and discoveries generated as a result of genome and molecular biology research will have major impact on the life sciences and pharmaceutical industries, healthcare, food and nutrition, people and the environment. Singapore is already the regional medical and life sciences research centre. With our good base of life sciences players, highly skilled and educated workforce, excellent communication systems, good industry infrastructure and a stable government, Singapore has the potential and capability to become a major international medical and life sciences hub. At NTU, we have already made a start in building a capability in the life sciences through our collaboration with the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) in the field of biomedical engineering. Besides the liberty to chart new developmental plans outside the organizational structure and constraints of traditional schools of biological sciences and medicine, NTU's technological focus will provide a good basis for developing new technologies and schools in life sciences.

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Associate Professor Su I-Hsin on 3 October 2025.

A cherished member of the School of Biological Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Su was an inspiring educator and dedicated researcher whose warmth, generosity, and professionalism touched the lives of many colleagues and students. Her commitment to teaching and research has left an enduring mark on the SBS community and the wider academic field.

Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, together with Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM), has launched a ๐ฃ๐จ๐ข๐ง๐ญ ๐€๐ˆ-๐“๐‚๐Œ ๐ฅ๐š๐›๐จ๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐ฒ to explore how artificial intelligence can support traditional Chinese medicine diagnostics and treatments such as managing diabetes and digestive disorders.

At the inaugural Singapore Global Traditional Chinese Medicine Summit, Guest of Honour Senior Minister of State for Health Dr Koh Poh Koon - ่ฎธๅฎ็จ announced ๐’๐ข๐ง๐ ๐š๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐žโ€™๐ฌ ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ซ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐Œ๐š๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซโ€™๐ฌ ๐๐ž๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐ž ๐ข๐ง ๐‚๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ž๐ฌ๐ž ๐Œ๐ž๐๐ข๐œ๐ข๐ง๐ž, to be launched in 2026. The congress gave her the chance to deepen her understanding of how health economics informs healthcare quality and accessibility worldwide. Asst. Prof. Li Yinghui and her team, including lead author Dr. Kamalakshi Deka, have identified a novel RNA, PLUM, that drives chemoresistance in high-risk multiple myeloma patients. Their work explores antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) that can restore drug sensitivity, offering new hope for future cancer therapies.
