With Pertussis cases remaining a point of concern, understanding how to manage and prevent this respiratory infection is more important than ever.

HMI OneCare Clinic’s Medical Director, Dr. Adrian Poh Zhongxian, recently spoke with Lianhe Zaobao to share professional insights on the clinical management of Pertussis. Dr. Poh highlights that for patients in stable condition, GP clinics can effectively manage the Pertussis infection with oral antibiotics, often allowing recovery without the need for hospitalisation. However, patients who show signs of respiratory distress or hemodynamic instability will be strongly encouraged to visit their nearest hospital immediately.

Dr. Poh also notes a heartening trend: an increase in expectant mothers visiting our clinics for Pertussis vaccinations since its inclusion in the National Adult Immunisation Schedule. This proactive step is crucial in providing early protection for newborns.
