Two days ago, Dr Paul Chiam (The Heart & Vascular Centre interventional cardiologist) and Dr Ong Cheng Kang (Mount Elizabeth Hospital neuroradiologist), successfully performed their 15th case of carotid artery angioplasty/ stent procedure together.
Carotid artery stenting is a minimally invasive procedure that is performed under local anaesthesia to open and re-establish blood flow in significantly narrowed carotid arteries, in patients who have suffered transient strokes or minor strokes, so that further strokes can be prevented.
We are happy to report that the patient was discharged after a 1-night stay and all our previous patients are doing well. We couldn't have done it without the support of our dedicated Mount Elizabeth Hospital cath lab team of nurses, technicians and radiographers! Looking forward to helping more patients in the future!
