Although we're approaching the end of the year, it has been terribly sunny, not to mention scorching. It goes without saying that a sunscreen is a must. We would even encourage its use on a cloudy day. In fact, we'd say where it every day, come rain or shine!

When we talk about skin cells, we often do no mention senescent cells. These are commonly referred to as zombie cells, basically cells that have permanently stopped dividing, but have not died.

They remain metabolically active and accumulate in tissues over time, particularly as an individual ages. This accumulation contributes to the normal aging process and the development of age-related conditions, even diseases.

In terms of skin health, the accumulation of these zombie cells is considered a key driver of skin aging and age-related skin disorders. Their detrimental impact is primarily due to their toxic secretions and their inability to perform their normal regenerative functions.

All of us use the smartphone. They are, no doubt, effective tools for communication, productivity and, definitely, entertainment. Regrettably, the time we spend with them are on the high side. And this has a negative effect on our skin.

The problem is the blue light emitted from our phone screen. Blue light disrupts skin health in two primary ways at the cellular level: by causing oxidative stress and interfering with the skin's natural repair cycles.

Unlike UV rays, whose effects like sunburn are immediately visible, blue light damage is more insidious and cumulative, occurring over time from daily, prolonged screen exposure. And crucially, it generates free radicals, degrade collagen and elastin, and degrade the skin barrier.

Last Friday, the founder of Rexults Aesthetics, Elizabeth Wong, was invited to a talk during the UltraLuxe jewellery fair. The others in the panel included esteemed guests from the beauty/wellness industry. And the discussion of the afternoon was how ageing is being re-defined today.
