If we perform an ANTS test (Auditory Nerve Test Stimulation), it helps us check if the auditory nerve is still responsive, especially in patients who may need tumour removal (like vestibular schwannoma / acoustic neuroma).
A cochlear implant (CI) works by sending sound signals through the hearing nerve.
If we perform an ANTS test (Auditory Nerve Test Stimulation), it helps us check if the auditory nerve is still responsive, especially in patients who may need tumour removal (like vestibular schwannoma / acoustic neuroma).
So before we commit to surgery, we want to know:
“Is the nerve still able to carry sound information to the brain?”
What ANTS can tell us:
-Confirms nerve stimulation is possible
-Helps predict if a CI may have a chance to work after tumour surgery
-Supports better counselling for the patient and family
-Helps the team decide between CI vs other hearing rehabilitation options
Important note:
While ANTS gives strong clinical reassurance, no test can guarantee 100% outcomes—because hearing success after tumour removal also depends on nerve preservation, healing, and brain adaptation.
But with ANTS, we’re not guessing.
We’re planning with evidence.
