Blessing Empowerment of Dorje Shugden & Teachings on Heart Jewel
Sat 28th Feb β€” Sun 1st Mar
with Resident Teacher, Gen Kelsang Rabka

Buddhas manifest in many different aspects in order to benefit living beings, for example, as Avalokiteshvara to help us develop compassion, or as Manjushri to help us develop wisdom. And to help living beings overcome their obstacles and gather the necessary outer and inner conditions for practice, they manifest as a Dharma Protector.

Dorje Shugden is the special Dharma Protector of our Kadampa Buddhist Tradition. For us, he is the same nature as the Wisdom Buddha, Je Tsongkhapa, the founder of our lineage. By relying on him we receive special blessings and protection that enable us to progress swiftly along the spiritual path.

During this special weekend event our Resident Teacher, Gen Kelsang Rabka will grant the blessing empowerment of Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden, as well as give the transmission of Heart Jewel puja, which we can use to draw close to this Buddha and receive his profound protection. By coming under the care of this compassionate enlightened being we will have a powerful friend and spiritual ally guiding and protecting us in all things. In particular the practice of Dorje Shugden gives us a special skill in transforming obstacles into our spiritual training.

Buddha Amitayus Long Life Retreat (Unguided)
Feb 21-22

Buddha Amitayus is the Buddha of long life, wisdom and good fortune. In order to help us to overcome obstacles to our long life and good health we need to increase our lifespan and our wisdom, and the principal method for accomplishing this is the Yoga of Buddha Amitayus.

During this retreat we will engage in chanted prayers and mantra recitation to Buddha Amitayus - requesting blessings to help us to increase our lifespan, wisdom, and good fortune.

Everybody is welcome to attend any session of this retreat regardless of experience, however please not that it is unguided. Prayer booklets are available for loan during each session, and one of our volunteers will be able to chat to you about the practice if you're new to it.

Prayer Booklet used: The Yoga of Buddha Amitayus.

Free Lunchtime Meditation: Simply Meditate
Tuesdays & Fridays | 12.30 – 1pm

Why not take 30 minutes out of your busy day to relax and unwind from all of the morning's activities with a gentle guided meditation, allowing you to return to the afternoon with mental calm and clarity?

This class is designed to specifically emphasise practical meditation, giving you a good amount of time to train your mind. Classes will begin with 5–10 minutes of advice on the specific meditation being practiced in that session, followed by a 20–25 minute guided meditation. The actual meditation we train in will differ each week, following a cycle of 9 meditations as shown below.

Half-Day Course: Understanding the Mind
Sun 8th Feb | 10am – 1pm
with Resident Teacher, Gen Kelsang Rabka

"Happiness and suffering are feelings – parts of our mind – and so their main causes are not to be found outside the mind. If we really want to be truly happy and free from suffering we must improve our understanding of the mind."
– Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche

We often say, "My mind, my mind," but if someone were to ask us, "What is your mind?" we would likely find it quite difficult to answer. Since happiness and suffering are states of mind, if we are to find the happiness we seek, an understanding of our mind is essential.

During this brief course we will explore Buddhist insights into the nature, function and power of the mind, and gain practical meditative experience on the conventional nature of the mind. As we learn to navigate the intricacies of our mind, we'll gain the tools to foster lasting peace and happiness amidst life's challenges.
