The Foundation Program is a committed book-study class in which students have the opportunity to deepen their understanding and experience of Buddhism through a formal and systematic study of six texts.

Starting in April we are going to be studying the famous 11th century Buddhist text Eight Verses of Training the Mind as explained in Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche’s commentary The New Eight Steps to Happiness.

Free Lunchtime Meditation: Simply Meditate
Tuesdays & Fridays | 12.30 – 1pm
(Please note that there will be no class on 1 May, and no classes from 25 - 31 May)
Why not take 30 minutes out of your busy day to relax and unwind from all of the morning's activities with a gentle guided meditation, allowing you to return to the afternoon with mental calm and clarity?

This class is designed to specifically emphasise practical meditation, giving you a good amount of time to train your mind. Classes will begin with 5–10 minutes of advice on the specific meditation being practiced in that session, followed by a 20–25 minute guided meditation. The actual meditation we train in will differ each week, following a cycle of 9 meditations as shown below.

THIS CLASS IS FREE OF CHARGE, however please consider making a donation upon arrival to support our activities in Singapore.

7.30 – 8.45pm: May 5, 12 & 19

By transforming our habitual attitude through this profound practice, we will come to see in our own experience how a small shift in our usual way of thinking is able to profoundly shift the experiences in our life for the better — unlocking an internal source of mental peace that remains steady even when life gets tough.

Series Outline:

Week 1: The Benefits of Cherishing Others – Explore how a simple shift in attitude changes everything for the better.
Week 2: Equalising Self with Others – Establish the foundation for Exchanging Self with Others by discovering the common ground we share with all living beings.
Week 3: The Faults of Self-Cherishing & The Actual Exchange – Examine the actual root of your daily problems and learn how to solve it through the practice of Exchanging Self with Others.

April 15 is Buddha's Enlightenment Day, when we celebrate Buddha demonstrating how to attain enlightenment. Enlightenment is the inner light of wisdom that is completely free from mistaken appearance and whose function is to bestow mental peace upon each and every living being every day. It is the source of all living beings’ happiness.

Even though he had already attained enlightenment many lives previously, out of great compassion he emanated in our world to demonstrate how we too can follow this path.

Today we in engaged in Nyungnay retreat, it is one of the most precious Dharma Jewels in the Kadampa calendar, and as a Centre practice it comes around just once a year – on Buddha’s Enlightenment Day.

Nyungnay is a special purification and fasting practice that is performed together with prayers and prostrations to 1000-Armed Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of Compassion. Nyungnay is an especially powerful practice for purifying negative karma and strong delusions such as desirous attachment and anger, as well as being a special method for receiving blessings and improving our experience of love, compassion, and supreme good heart of bodhichitta.
