NDCS is proud to be part of a new collaboration with Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and Nanofilm Technologies International at the NTI–NTU Corporate Laboratory.

At NDCS, we often witness firsthand the challenges patients face with dental prosthetics — from long healing times to the risk of infection and implant failure. The partnership holds strong potential to improve the durability, biocompatibility, and antimicrobial (bacterial resistance) performance of dental implants and prosthetics. For patients, it means better healing, reduced complications, and more lasting treatment outcomes.

The event was graced by Dr Tan See Leng, Minster for Manpower and Minister-in-charge of Energy and Science & Technology in the Ministry of Trade and Industry who witnessed the next-generation nanotechnology solutions for industries spanning semiconductors, biomedical applications, and clean energy.

A research study led by the National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS), in collaboration with researchers from Duke-NUS Medical School, discovered that maintaining more natural teeth is associated with significantly additional years of independent living among older adults, especially among those who do not use removable dental prostheses.

Professor Marco Peres, NDCS’ Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Research, Innovation and Education, and senior co-author of this research led the oral health-related analysis.

The research findings suggest that investing in preventive dental care, tooth retention strategies and access to removable dental prostheses could yield significant benefits for healthy ageing, adding to increasing evidence that oral health plays a crucial role in overall wellbeing and quality of life in older age.

𝗢𝗥𝗛 𝗔𝗖𝗣 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 – 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄'𝘀 𝗢𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Last month, 28 passionate educators, senior leaders, HODs, HOUs and administrators gathered for an inspiring afternoon that will shape the future of oral health education at NDCS.

Guided by Ms Wendy Chua from Wand Inspiration Network, our education community embarked on a transformative journey that began with creative visioning exercises using picture cards – literally painting our hopes and aspirations for what oral health education in NDCS can become!

Through World Cafe conversations and the GROW coaching model, the participants explored four game-changing themes that will take our education efforts forward:

· 🤝Interprofessional Education – Breaking down silos for better collaborative care

· 🌱Faculty Development – Nurturing our educators to reach new heights

What truly stood out was the heart and dedication of our educators, as they shared personal commitments toward building a vibrant, learner-centred educational ecosystem.

Our CEO's concluding reflections reaffirmed a powerful truth: that collective ownership is key to shaping tomorrow's learning landscape.

Together, we are not just teaching – we are building a legacy that will impact countless lives and transform oral healthcare for generations to come.

We commemorated World Oral Health Day with our annual Public Forum at Sengkang General Hospital last Saturday. This year's theme, "Happy Mouth, Happy Life", reminds us of all that oral health is not just about our teeth and gums — it's about how we live, feel, and age with confidence and vitality.

At NDCS, we witness every day how good oral health can transform lives. Each patient journey underscores a simple truth: when we prioritise oral health, we strengthen the health of our communities. This starts with education, prevention, and ensuring everyone has access to quality dental care.

We were inspired by the overwhelming response from our community partners, dedicated volunteers, passionate staff, and engaged members of the public who joined us at our educational booths and interactive activities. This World Oral Health Day, we spotlight D-IONIC, a non-invasive, painless dental anaesthesia delivery system developed by Clin Assoc Prof Bee Tin Goh (Senior Consultant, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery) and Dr Zayim Razina Seeni Syed (Senior Research Fellow) from National Dental Centre Singapore - NDCS.

As D-IONIC move towards clinical trials with support from SingHealth Intellectual Property (SHIP) and SingHealth Technology Incubator (SCOUT), it exemplifies how a strong translational ecosystem within the SingHealth Duke-NUS research community is essential in turning research into real-world impact for patients.

We enjoyed a vibrant Saturday (7 March 2026, 9.30am–5.00pm) as NDCS participated in Eastern General Hospital's Reimagining Healthcare with You event.

With 100 invited guests, 150 partners, staff, and helpers from EGH/SCH, and over 1,700 residents in attendance, the square was filled with energy and strong community spirit!

NDCS was proud to be part of the festivities, with Cl A/Prof Sim Poh Choo, Christina, Senior Consultant, Prosthodontics Unit, Department of Restorative Dentistry, and our team engaging residents at the Tele-dentistry & Grip Strength Test booth.

It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase how digital tools can enhance oral health and overall well being.

NDCS was proud to set up our education booths recently at Outram Community Hospital and Sengkang Community Hospital, together with the SCH Infection Prevention & Control team!

Over the two-day event, we reached out to more than 200 members of the public and staff, raising awareness on the importance of hand hygiene and oral hygiene for better overall health.
