True or False: Therapists are always functioning well?
Let’s debunk this myth. 👀

Therapists are human too, with good days, bad days, and everything in between. What makes them great at what they do isn’t perfection… it’s self-awareness, training, and a deep commitment to growth (their own included). 🌱

💬 Have you ever wondered how therapists cope? Let us know your thoughts below!

There are so many myths about therapists. We’re not mind readers, we’re not here to judge or label you, and no, we don’t diagnose you on the spot. What we do offer is a safe, supportive space to explore your thoughts and feelings. Even in everyday life, being a therapist can lead to interesting moments (like unexpected taxi detours! 😅).

Let’s clear up some of these common misconceptions and remind ourselves: therapy is about connection, not correction. 💛

Introducing Tulika Sahai, one of our newest members at A Space Between. In our recent conversation, we asked Tulika why she chose to practice here. Her answer was simple, yet profound—she values the safe, nurturing environment we provide, where her clients can feel truly heard and supported.

Tulika’s approach to therapy is rooted in genuine care and a deep understanding of the human experience. She believes in the importance of creating a strong, trusting relationship with her clients, offering them a space where they can explore their emotions freely, without judgement. With a philosophy centered around the idea that it’s okay to not be okay, Tulika is here to help you work through life’s challenges and come out stronger on the other side.

At A Space Between, we believe in providing a welcoming, supportive environment for therapists like Tulika to practice and grow. A Space Between is a Community, and Right Now, Our Community Needs You

Today, we share some difficult news with heavy hearts. Our dear team member, Anna, is going through an unimaginable loss. Her 9-year-old daughter has passed away, and we are all rallying behind her during this incredibly challenging time.

At A Space Between, we stand together in both moments of joy and sorrow. Anna has been a valued member of our team, always showing up with kindness, strength, and compassion for those around her. Now, it’s our turn to show up for her.

We’ve set up a fundraising campaign to help Anna cover some of the immediate costs and provide her with the support she needs. If you are able, please consider donating. No contribution is too small—your support means the world.

Our hearts are with you, Anna. You’re not alone in this. And to all of you in our community, thank you for being part of something bigger than just a space. You are all part of the heart of A Space Between.

This month’s book recommendation: ‘I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki’ – a poignant journey through life’s cravings and complexities.
___
As someone who often finds solace in food, the book’s exploration of how our cravings can mirror deeper emotional needs resonated deeply with my own experiences. It’s a raw and honest portrayal of the human condition, reminding me that amidst the chaos of life, there’s comfort to be found in the simple pleasures, even if they’re as humble as a bowl of tteokbokki.

Singapore, a city-state known for its bustling pace and cosmopolitan vibes, has been making strides in mental health awareness. However, the question remains: is the conversation still shrouded in taboo?

In recent years, Singapore has witnessed a commendable shift towards acknowledging and addressing mental health. Initiatives, campaigns, and a growing number of mental health professionals indicate a positive trajectory. But the stigma around seeking therapy persists in certain circles.

It's essential to recognise that talking about mental health is a powerful tool for change. Open conversations break down stereotypes and empower individuals to seek the support they need. However, cultural nuances and traditional mindsets may still contribute to the hesitancy in discussing mental health struggles openly.

As Singapore continues to evolve, so does its perspective on mental health. Influential figures and public figures sharing their mental health journeys contribute to destigmatizing seeking therapy help. Yet, there's room for more dialogue and understanding.

What are your thoughts? Is discussing mental health still considered taboo in Singapore? What changes have you observed, and what more can we do to break the silence?

*If you or someone you know is seeking therapy, A Space Between offers a client-matching service: https://www.aspacebetween.com.sg/therapist-directory. Let's work towards a more compassionate and understanding society, starting with supporting those who need it.*
