This afternoon in a Grab, something felt a little off. The driver was staring — not rudely, just with an intense, focused gaze. I didn’t think much of it. I’ve always had time for quirky.
A few minutes in, I told her I’d be taking a call — and apologized for the noise, especially since I’d opted for a Quiet Ride.
She thanked me — then pointed to her headset and said, “It's alright. I have my noise guard on.”
That’s when I noticed the badge on the seat in front of me:
“I'm autistic. Please be patient.”
In that moment, I felt relieved -- because I’d taken a second to be considerate. That small pause meant everything.
It was a small but powerful reminder: When we’re rushing to tick off the next thing, we miss what’s right in front of us — the signs, the signals, the people.
But when we slow down, we notice. And noticing makes all the difference - may be not to ourselves, but to someone else.
