Singaporeans are eating much more sodium and saturated fat than is recommended. For example, the average sodium intake is around 3,620 mg/day, almost double the recommended limit of about 2,000 mg.

From mid-2027, packaged salt, sauces, seasonings, instant noodles, and cooking oils will have to carry Nutri-Grade labels.

This will make it easier to tell at a glance which sauces, oils, instant noodles are “healthier” choices. Labels will help compare between similar products.

As consumers, we can start paying attention now: pick sauces with less sodium, try lighter oils, and check labels. Every little change makes a difference.

Let’s look forward to having more transparency in what’s in the food we cook and eat!

Packaged sauces, seasonings, instant noodles and cooking oils will go under a nutritional grading programme in 2027. Read more at straitstimes.com. Read more at straitstimes.com.

If we make healthier choices now, Singapore could save S$650 million in healthcare costs by 2050: that’s the takeaway from a recent study by NUS’ Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health.

The researchers projected that with sustained lifestyle changes, such as better blood pressure control, more physical activity, and reduced sodium intake, can slow down the rise of chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, stroke, and heart disease.

If each of us does our part by eating healthier, moving more, and reducing our salt consumption, the collective benefit is huge.

We can all make small daily choices with long-term impact, including scheduling regular health checks. Talk to our telemedicine team to find out more!

The prevalence of diabetes, hypertension, stroke and heart disease is forecast to rise sharply among older adults by 2050. Read more at straitstimes.com. Read more at straitstimes.com.

Recent reports highlight the significant threat posed by respiratory infections such as pneumonia, especially among vulnerable populations. Such infections are a persistent and evolving health threat.

A study published in The Lancet reveals that adults infected with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) have higher odds of mortality and intensive care unit admissions compared to those with influenza or COVID-19, even among vaccinated individuals.

Here at DCMed, we are committed to enhancing access to healthcare through our telemedicine services. By facilitating timely consultations and promoting vaccination awareness, we aim to reduce the burden of respiratory diseases and support our community's health.
