New year, new you 🥳

In a Zaobao article feature on daily 10‑minute habits to embrace in 2026, Huang Wan‑Ching, Occupational Therapist at OCH, shared how gardening can be a simple yet powerful routine for enhancing overall well‑being.

She explained that everyday tasks such as watering plants, pruning leaves, or handling soil provide gentle physical activity that helps maintain hand and arm mobility, coordination, and functional movement. Gardening also stimulates the senses – feeling the texture of soil, observing greenery, and spending time in natural light – all of which promote mindfulness, ease stress, and support mental relaxation.

As Singapore enters a super-aged society, healthcare must evolve beyond treating illness to preventing it.

In this article on arts for healing, A/Prof Lee Kheng Hock, Deputy CEO (Academic Medicine & Partnerships) at SCH, highlights how up to 80% of health outcomes are shaped by social factors. Through SCH's Social Prescribing Programme which started in 2019, our patient regain meaning, autonomy and connection. Healing, he reminds us, begins with understanding what truly matters to each person.

It’s thyme for something fresh 🌱 Our SCH Hydroponics Garden is now growing at OCH!

We’re thrilled to launch the SCH Hydroponics Garden at OCH as part of our Social Prescribing Programme, supporting well-being through connection with nature. This soil-free system uses nutrient-rich water to grow fresh produce while conserving resources and promoting eco-friendly practices, marking a big step towards sustainability. We were honoured to have Prof Fong Kok Yong join us as our special guest for this milestone event too!

Be part of our green journey! We’re looking for passionate volunteers to help patients and facilitate the Hydroponics programme.

It was an artsy afternoon! Earlier today, our patients, staff and the community got their paintbrushes and canvases filled with colour at the Creative Wellness @ OCH event at Outram Community Hospital 🧡

Art in healthcare is more than aesthetics – it promotes emotional well-being, reduces stress, and fosters a sense of belonging. We are thankful for the partnership with National Arts Council and ArtsEverywhere@CDC to bring an inspiring afternoon of music to OCH with a harp performance by harpist Charmaine Teo and special musical guests.

Alongside the harp performance, our staff, patients, and volunteers came together for a community art activity, decorating their own canvases with unique designs that reflect creativity and connection. Keep an eye out for these beautiful artworks displayed around OCH soon!

Through initiatives like this, we work towards fostering more meaningful partnerships to bring social prescribing into the community to create better experiences for our community.

Swipe through to see the vibrant artworks and shared moments that brought our community closer!
