Unilab Education, Inc. (UniEd), the education pillar of the Filipino-owned Unilab Group, and European MedTech Services (EMTS) Inc., a Singapore-based leader in medical technology services, recently announced a strategic partnership to advance the training and career development of biomedical technicians and engineers.
Mr. Steffen Rittner, EMTS Inc. EVP and Philippines Managing Director (left), and Atty. Jose Maria Ochave, Unilab Education President (right) mark the launch of a joint biomedical technology training program, designed to equip students with hands-on experience and globally relevant skills.
The collaboration responds to a growing demand for highly skilled biomedical technology professionals both in the Philippines and abroad. At the heart of the program is a “dual training” model that blends classroom-based instruction with immersive, real-world experience in healthcare settings.
For EMTS, the program creates a pipeline of job-ready graduates with targeted training – helping reduce recruitment costs and cut down onboarding time.
“Our mission is to equip the next generation of Filipino biomedical technicians and engineers with
the skills they need to excel from day one,” said Mr. Steffen Rittner, Philippines Managing Director at EMTS. “They’ll train on state-of-the-art equipment, following international standards tailored to the local healthcare landscape. This partnership will help build a highly skilled local workforce—raising the bar for biomedical services across the Philippines and strengthening the quality of healthcare our communities deserve.”
Through UniEd’s involvement, students will be equipped with industry-recognized competencies that boost their employability and career prospects. These include training in key areas such as biomedical equipment safety standards, medical device maintenance, hospital and clinical workflows, and essential workplace soft skills.
Atty. Jose Maria Ochave, President of Unilab Education, underscored the broader value of the partnership: “This program brings together the best of UniEd and EMTS, along with our academic and industry networks, to shine a light on the exciting opportunities in biomedical technology.
More importantly, it reflects our shared commitment to ‘bayanihan’—working together to open doors for Filipinos by making quality, future-ready education accessible and inclusive.”
