Collagen is a key structural component of smooth, healthy-looking skin. With aging, the body’s collagen production decreases. In fact, facial aging begins in your 20s, when you start losing about 1% of the collagen in your skin per year. Skin firmness decreases as a result of both internal factors (genetics and natural aging) and external factors (sun exposure, smoking, stress, etc.). The loss of collagen causes loose and saggy skin, shallow wrinkles, deep folds and loss of facial volume.

Sculptra® is a collagen biostimulator containing microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). It stimulates skin's collagen production to correct skin depressions such as creases, wrinkles, folds and loss of facial fat, thereby recreating a youthful appearance.

An energy based device that helps with lifting is the treatment known as HIFU, which utilises High Intensity Focused Ultrasound to stimulate collagen from different depths such as 4.5mm, 3.0mm, 2.0mm, and 1.5mm.

With precise depths, we are able to customise a targeted treatment for the patient for different layers of the skin. There is relatively little downtime and the results last about one year.

In general, the procedure works best on mild to moderate laxity and is a good preventative measure. People with more extensive photo-aging and loose skin may need more treatments before seeing results, and may need surgery.
