The gluteal muscles play a key role in stabilising the hips and supporting propulsion during walking and running.
When they underperform, other parts of the body quietly compensates.

Looking back on the past year of rehabilitation work, one thing became very clear. Dogs may come in
with different diagnoses, but the way movement adapts — and compensates — often follows familiar
patterns. Real progress isn’t about doing more exercises. It comes from understanding what needs to
change, why it matters, and how to support it consistently.

Meet Clarice 🩵

Clarice’s journey into rehabilitation began as a pet owner — when her own dog, Jagger, needed more than time and rest to recover. Seeing how rehabilitation played a huge role in helping Jagger regain his mobility changed how she viewed care, movement, and recovery.

Today, Clarice is a rehabilitation technician at Nimble Paws. She brings a calm presence to each session, is thoughtful with handling, and pays close attention to the small details that shape how rehabilitation feels for both pet and owner.

She’s currently pursuing her CCRP training while learning within the Nimble Paws mentorship programme, gradually building her clinical skills in a structured, physiotherapist-led environment.

We’re grateful to support her growth and to have her as part of the work we do every day.

Your dog’s harness matters more than you think!

🤔 Imagine putting on a pair of tight, poor fitting shoes and walking 5000 steps everyday - that’s the impact a harness can have on your dog as well!

🐕 Case study: Ollie came to us with some left front limb limping. Our NIMBLE™ assessment revealed left elbow pain, and one culprit was the harness that he has had since young. It restricted shoulder movement, resulting in uneven loading in his elbow joint and pain. After fitting him with a more suitable harness and some physio sessions, Ollie is back to his 3km walks pain-free! Now he continues rehab to strengthen his shoulder muscles and improve his trunk stability 💪🏻

💁🏻‍♀️ NIMBLE Tip: Much like buying shoes, try on the harness and get your dog to walk around a bit before purchasing. A good-fitting harness goes a long long way.

Still not convinced? Or not sure if your dog’s harness fits well? Feel free to drop us a DM. We are happy to help always! 🐾

Collar or harness?

From a physiotherapist’s perspective, that’s rarely the right question.

Most dogs don’t walk in a perfectly loose leash — especially in urban environments like Singapore. When leash tension exists, what your dog wears can influence how their body moves, how load is distributed, and how compensations develop over time.

Free or loose-leash walking is the ideal. It allows the body to move with minimal restriction.

But when that ideal isn’t possible, movement quality matters even more.

That’s why we don’t choose equipment based on trends or brand names. We look at fit, anatomy, walking behaviour, and the environment your dog moves in every day.

There is no universal “best.” What matters is how your dog’s body moves — consistently, comfortably, and symmetrically.

For owners who want a deeper, evidence-informed breakdown, we’ve shared the full article on The Nimble Edit 📖 - https://www.nimblepaws.sg/post/choosing-the-right-walking-equipment-for-your-dog-a-physiotherapist-s-perspective

Dogs rarely show pain clearly — their bodies compensate long before limping begins. Over time, these quiet adjustments can make movement less efficient and place extra stress on the joints and spine.

In physiotherapy, one of the most important things we work on is restoring efficient, well-supported movement — so dogs can move with less effort, fewer flare-ups, and more confidence.

If you’ve noticed subtle changes in your dog’s posture or gait, you’re welcome to send a short walking clip. We’re happy to share what we see! 👀

At Nimble Paws, quality is intentional.

Our rehabilitation team works within clearly defined roles grounded in the internationally recognised CCRP (Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner) competencies.

🔹Your vet is responsible for medical diagnosis, imaging decisions, surgical context, and medical management.
🔹Our physiotherapists lead biomechanical assessment, rehabilitation planning, manual therapy, and safe exercise progression.
🔹Our rehabilitation technicians (veterinary technicians/nurses) support handling and exercise delivery under physiotherapist guidance. They do not conduct independent assessment or treatment planning — this structure keeps rehabilitation safe, appropriate, and within proper scope. They continue developing their skills through a year-long, structured in-clinic mentorship that strengthens clinical reasoning, movement analysis and hands-on skills.

Clear roles create consistent, safe rehabilitation — and every member of our team contributes to the same purpose: providing your pet with the highest standard of care we can 💎

If you’re ever unsure who should be leading your dog’s rehab, just drop us a message — we’re happy to guide!
