Hi everyone - (One last slot left) We will be holding a herbal cream and ointment workshop tomorrow (8 June) at 5pm at Centropod building near Eunos MRT:
Part 1: Making your own herbal creams
- The benefits of herbal creams (how an oil and water combination is best for absorption into the skin, as it mimics the skin's own secretions)
- Introducing your 3 best friends
1) the emulsifiers - which is the best emulsifer to use? the advantages and disadvantages of emulsifying wax, beeswax, lanolin
2) the herbs - herbs to include in your creams for dry eczema (e.g. chickweed), inflammed eczema (e.g. licorice), weeping eczema (e.g. calendula)
3) the oils and preservatives - which oils are best and which damage the skin barrier and worsen eczema (olive oil not good, use coconut or sunflower oil)
Practical session! Recipe, oil, herbs are provided, and you will get to make your own cream from scratch :) Will share what is the best way to prevent the creams from coagulating (hint: mix well :) )
Part 2: Making your own herbal ointments
- Never have to buy lip-balm or tiger balm again?
- Best for dry scaly skin, especially in our air-con environment.
- You can also modify the herbal ointment to make your own.. tiger balm :)
- The oil bases, and essential oils that are best suited for ointments.
- Practical session: Make and customise your own ointment
- Recipes for your home use: Chest rub, lip balm
We have 2 places left for tomorrow :) For $50 you get a 2 hour session of solid theory, you make your own creams guided by a herbalist, and you bring home your own creams. Raw materials all provided.
If you're keen, indicate your interest in the comments and we will be in touch with you. Look forward to seeing you!
Regards,
Ben
