🎉This year marks 40 years in UK since the first paediatric cochlear implant surgery 🎉
In 1985, 10-year-old Scott Smith became the first child to receive a cochlear implant designed for children, alongside 5-year-old Bryn Davies. Professor Graeme Clark, inventor of the multi-channel cochlear implant, recently reunited with Scott and met Hudson, who received his first implant at just 18 months.
From those first surgeries to thousands of children hearing today - it’s a milestone worth celebrating.

🌍 A Journey of Sound, Rediscovered
Meet Abdul Hadi — a restaurant director who faced sudden hearing loss in his left ear due to a rare tumour. The diagnosis came as a shock, but he chose not to let silence define him.
Hadi underwent cochlear implant surgery at Singapore General Hospital (SGH), taking a bold step towards hearing again with the Cochlear™ Nucleus® Nexa™ System.
He’s especially excited about being part of this new era in hearing technology — knowing that his Cochlear™ Nucleus® Nexa™ System is the world’s first “smart” cochlear implant featuring internal memory and upgradeable firmware. What excites him most is the new Auracast™ Bluetooth technology, which allows seamless, direct audio streaming from compatible devices — a true game changer in hearing connectivity.
Soon, Hadi will travel to Australia to experience the full potential of Auracast™ and Nexa™ in real life, marking a new chapter in his hearing journey.✨
We’re proud to support Hadi as he rediscovers sound, connection, and confidence with Cochlear. 💛
Technology keeps advancing, and so can your hearing journey. 👂🏻
The latest Cochlear innovation, Nucleus® Nexa™ System, is built to adapt, giving you access to future improvements so you can confidently stay connected to the people and moments that matter.
It’s not just about better hearing today; it’s also about the peace of mind for tomorrow.

As the global leader in implantable hearing solutions, at Cochlear Southeast Asia, we are committed to our mission to help people hear and be heard. Our story started more than four decades ago when Professor Graeme Clark pioneered the world's first multi-channel cochlear implant and created an entirely new treatment for hearing loss.
Since our formation in 1981, we continue Professor Clark’s work to help people with moderate to profound hearing loss experience a life full of hearing.
We have provided more than 600,000 implantable devices. Each recipient helps form a global community of millions, through families, friends, colleagues, teachers and more. And they’re not just connected to their own community — each shares a link with each other and to Professor Clark’s childhood desire to help people hear.
We aim to give people the best lifelong hearing experience and access to innovative future technologies. We understand the privilege of connecting people to a life lived with hearing. And we listen, respond and move with the times – to continue to bring hearing within reach of all those who need it.
That's how we live our mission every day. Our global workforce of more than 4,000 people shares a collective determination to give more people the opportunity to enjoy a life of hearing.
Cochlear’s global headquarters are on the campus of Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia with regional headquarters in Asia Pacific, Europe and the Americas. Through our offices in over 180 countries we help people of all ages to hear.
