In Singapore, nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is the most common type of head and neck cancer, especially among Chinese men.

Diet may play a role. Frequent consumption of salted, preserved or fermented foods, common in traditional Chinese cuisine, has been linked to a higher risk of NPC.

Remember, moderation is key. Enjoy these food but try not to overconsume.

Last week, our partners in Jakarta invited Dr Lee Guek Eng (Medical Oncologist) to speak on the increasingly important topic of ā€œCancers in Younger Populations and How to Screen,ā€ with over 100 participants attending across two sessions.

With a strong passion for supporting young women facing cancer, Dr Lee emphasised the importance of early detection and timely screening, especially as more cases are being seen in younger age groups in the recent years.

The sessions generated active participation and substantive discussion, underscoring a strong appetite for actionable cancer awareness. We thank all who attended. Moving forward, Icon remains committed to translating this engagement into better screening practices and improved outcomes for younger populations in Indonesia.

Joline Chua (Principal Radiation Therapist) was invited to speak at the Singapore Society of Radiographers (SSR) Annual Scientific Meeting 2026.

At the event, Joline delivered a presentation on ā€œGuided by Surface, Driven by Value: SGRT at Iconā€, where she shared how Surface Guided Radiotherapy (SGRT) uses an integrated camera system to monitor patient’s contours during treatment. This enables safer and more precise radiotherapy, reduces time on the treatment bed and ultimately leads to better patient outcomes.

Joline was also invited to be on the judging panel for the poster competition, contributing her expertise in the field.

We are proud of Joline’s contributions and representing Icon at this event.

Icon uses evidence-based radiation therapy techniques and technology to deliver accurate radiation to tumours and treat all cancer types of various size, type and location. Find out about the different radiotherapy techniques available - https://tinyurl.com/SSRRT2026
