We are grateful for the invite from our friends at Kiasuparents.

Indeed, in reality, some marriages do break down.

Divorce is one of the most expensive and emotionally damaging life decisions a person can make. Yet in the midst of fear, anger, or uncertainty, many people step into the process without fully understanding what it will truly cost them - financially, emotionally, and relationally.

Whether you are considering divorce, currently in the middle of proceedings, co-parenting after separation, or supporting someone you care about, what you do now matters. The decisions made at this stage can either reduce conflict and protect children, or escalate tensions that last for years.

Many people worry about how much a divorce will really cost and what actually drives those fees. Others fear that the process will drag on, becoming more bitter and adversarial than necessary. Parents often carry deep concerns about how separation will affect their children emotionally and psychologically, both now and in the long term. Friends and family members frequently want to help, but are unsure how to provide support without making things worse.

In this 90-minute webinar, we will unpack the real cost drivers of divorce and explore practical ways to reduce time, fees, and emotional strain. We will discuss how conflict escalates and how it can be prevented. Most importantly, we will share evidence-based strategies to protect children’s well-being during and after divorce, and offer guidance on how to support someone going through separation in ways that truly help.

Divorce may be a legal process, but how you approach it determines whether it becomes destructive or constructive.

If you want clarity, practical tools, and a healthier path forward, we invite you to join us.

Are having just lawyers enough?

Psychological assessments are used to support families involved in legal proceedings, especially when children are in conflict with the law.

These assessments help provide insight into the young person's psychological state, aiding legal and mental health professionals in making informed decisions.

One example shared involved a family going through a divorce, during which their child was caught for theft.

Legal practitioners sought psychological support, and the assessment revealed the child had high-functioning autism and difficulty understanding the value of the stolen items, which significantly impacted how the case was approached.

Don't wait too long!!

We emphasize the importance of not waiting until a relationship reaches the brink of divorce before seeking help.

Couples are encouraged to seek coaching early, especially when they start noticing tension at home - often caused by conflicts in values within multi-generational households.

The person who typically seeks help is the one who desires change and wants to take the initiative to create a healthier environment for their family and children.

And change may not mean staying in the relationship together still trying to make it work. By this time, that may not be possible anymore.

Change could mean moving forward in a different way.

We subscribe to collaborative practices. What does that mean for us at Amicus?

This approach involves coaches, clinicians, and lawyers working together to support families.

Instead of escalating conflicts through litigation, the focus is on open dialogue - encouraged by the family court through conferences and mediation.

The aim is to reduce acrimony, help parties focus on what truly matters, and support better decision-making for life after separation.

Because all partners share this collaborative mindset, the process becomes smoother and more effective when support or helping families through disputes or litigation.

Do you know if you were stuck in a cycle of violence in your relationship?

We explain the cycle of violence here, where a victim experiences abuse followed by the perpetrator’s remorse and attempts to make amends, leading to reconciliation and a temporary sense of normalcy.

However, this peace is short-lived, as a trigger often reignites the violence. Victims caught in this cycle tend to hold onto hope that things will improve based on repeated promises that the abuse won't happen again - only for the cycle to repeat itself.

Have you ever wondered why children “take sides” in divorce?

One day they repeat what Mum says.
The next day they echo Dad.
And suddenly… it feels like the conflict gets even worse.

In this last video of a 3-part interview, we explain a crucial truth:

✅ Children aren’t manipulating.
✅ They’re not “choosing a parent.”
They’re trying not to lose either one.

This video shares powerful brain science that every parent should know:

Kids process life through the emotional brain (limbic system)

Adults rely more on logic + consequence (prefrontal cortex)

That “logic brain” only fully develops much later, creating a real developmental gap

Why you must connect emotionally first before guiding behavior or solutions

We also discuss real signs your child may be overwhelmed: nightmares, insecurity, sudden anger, tantrums, and becoming “the man of the house” emotionally.

We often talk about divorce like the couple are the only ones affected.

But in reality, divorce can hit the whole family system, especially:
👉 children, who struggle silently
👉 elderly parents, who can fall into depression
👉 and everyone caught in the emotional fallout

This short clip shares a painful but important truth: sometimes you only realize the impact when the kids start struggling… and the grandparents change.

If you know someone going through separation, share this. It might help them act sooner, not later.

When parents are fighting, separating, or living in cold silence under the same roof… children don’t just “move on.”

They become:
👉🏼 The protector
👉🏼 The savior
👉🏼 Sometimes even the parent in the home.

In this video, we discuss something every parent needs to hear:

✅ Children need at least one caring, trusted adult, a secure base they can return to.
✅ They must be taught who is safe to talk to (and who only looks safe).
✅ A stable routine and boundaries can reduce fear even when the home is emotionally strained.
✅ Many kids seek belonging elsewhere, sometimes online, and not all spaces are safe.

This video is practical, emotional, and deeply relevant for any family navigating conflict or divorce.

Many people think divorce only affects the couple.

But what about the children?
What about the parents?
What about the emotional wounds that quietly last for decades?

Nicholas Gabriel Lim, our Chairman and Psychologist for over 20 years, law-trained professional, and author, who courageously shares his own childhood story of fear, discipline, and emotional survival.

This conversation explores:

How childhood trauma shows up later in life

Why some children “cope” by excelling and still hurt inside

The role of parents, grandparents, and caregivers in shaping emotional safety

Why healing is a lifelong process, not a single conversation.

This is not just a talk about psychology, it’s a deeply human conversation about fear, resilience, and breaking generational cycles.
