(1)

Arriving from Nan’an County in Quanzhou, Fujian province, our founder, Mr Ang See Karr saw the need for quality and essential funeral services for the Hokkien community in Singapore. A humble shop at Upper Pickering Street opposite the old Police Headquarters was subsequently found and under the name “Ang Chin Huat Casket”, funerary services for the Chinese communities began. At the point of founding in 1912, we are one of the few funeral companies in Singapore. Indeed, Ang Chin Huat Casket is an early pioneer of the funeral profession in Singapore. Throughout our 103 years history, we moved premises several times, from No. 72 Rochore Road to Old Liang Seah Street and today, the company operates from a modern office at Block 88 Geylang Bahru. At the turn of millenium, Ang Chin Huat Casket was being rebranded to Ang Chin Moh Funeral Directors to mark its transition into a modern and professional service provider, with a strong focus on delivering service excellence for bereaved families. Milestones for Ang Chin Moh Funeral Directors include the grooming of Singapore’s first female embalmer in 1990, the setting up of “Western Casket” and “Flying Home” in 2000 to cater to the funerary needs of the Christian communities and the repatriation needs of Singaporeans. In 2010, the fourth generation owner of Ang Chin Moh Funeral Directors, Mr. Ang Ziqian successfully bid for the lease for Mount Vernon Sanctuary and after months of renovations turned a disused crematorium into modern funeral service halls of choice for bereaved families and the funeral profession. Ang Chin Moh Funeral Directors went from strength to strength with the establishment of Ang Chin Moh Foundation in 2013 to focus its efforts and profits into better serving the community in charitable causes, public education, uplifting the standards of the funeral profession and preserving the heritage of the profession. A century on, Ang Chin Moh Funeral Directors remains committed to serving the needs of bereaved families, the funeral profession and the larger Singapore society. The progress of Ang Chin Moh Funeral Directors as a Singaporean company is a reflection of the progress of Singapore as a modern nation state.

“The future is neither predictable nor controllable, but Ang Chin Moh will always be here to faithfully serve the needs of those who are going through their darkest moments of their lives. - Deputy Chairman, Ang Ziqian.

🌸 The Last Gift (临终前一份爱的礼物) at Toa Payoh Public Library & Central Public Library 🌸

Funeral planning is something many of us tend to avoid, yet it is one of the greatest acts of love we can give to our families.

At our recent National Library Board, Singapore talks on 17 September at Toa Payoh Public Library and 26 September at Central Public Library, our speaker Eve Yap shared how The Last Gift helps simplify the process of funeral pre-planning. By planning early, we protect our loved ones from uncertainty and give them peace of mind.

The talk also explored why illness and death should not remain taboo in Singapore, and how starting end-of-life conversations empowers families to make thoughtful and important decisions together.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us in opening up these meaningful conversations. May this be the start of more openness around end-of-life planning—a reminder that it’s not just about logistics, but about love, care, and giving our families the clarity and assurance they deserve. 💙

On 22 September 2025, we welcomed the New Taipei City Government, led by Deputy Mayor Liou Her-Ran and delegates from Commissioner of the Civil Affairs Department 林耀長 Lin Yao-Chang, Director of the Mortuary Services Office Chen Chien-Min, Division Chief of the Civil Affairs Department Ko Chun-Hsiung, and Chief of the Burial and Cemetery Management Section Hse Ching-Ho, to our premises.

Our Managing Director, Mr Ang Ziqian, introduced the Ang Chin Moh Group and our brands to our visitors. We had a meaningful exchange on the funeral landscape in Singapore and Taiwan. We also showcased our sea burial seashell urn (Passages International, Inc. - Green Funeral Products) to the Deputy Mayor, which reflects our ongoing push for eco-friendly funeral options.

Our conversations touched on cremation practices in Singapore, the differences in sea burials between Taiwan and Singapore, and how our multicultural society shapes funerals here. Our guests also shared how these practices are approached differently in Taiwan.

It was an insightful exchange learning from each another.

In this episode of TheSmartLocalTV’s Beyond Beliefs, our Managing Director, Mr Ang Ziqian, sat down with host Farah to answer the questions people are often curious about but may not know who to ask.

As a non-Chinese host, Farah brought fresh and genuine questions about Chinese funerals in Singapore while Mr Ang shared his knowledge about funerals, the different rituals involved, and how cultural and religious practices shape the way Chinese families hold their farewells.

We hope this exchange helps people better understand funerals and open up more conversations about dying, death and funerals.

On 17 August, we hosted the Good Death Educational Workshop organised by People's Association and Marymount AAC at our funeral home in Toa Payoh. The programme is designed for those aged 50 and above, aimed at creating a safe space to talk openly about life, death, and legacy.

The morning began with an informative session from Allkin Singapore on useful topics such as Advance Care Planning and the Lasting Power of Attorney, giving attendees the tools to make informed decisions about their future care and legal arrangements. This was followed by “The Last Mile” talk on funeral pre-planning by our Managing Director, Mr Ang Ziqian, under The Last Gift initiative. He shared practical insights helping participants understand how early preparation can bring peace of mind to themselves and their loved ones.

The workshop ended with a make-up and photography session, giving participants the chance to take dignified, personal portraits for future use — and, more importantly, to celebrate themselves in the present.

On 16 August, our team supported our very first service at the newly opened Mandai North Crematorium & Garden of Serenity. Having familiarised ourselves with the space earlier, we were ready to guide the family through every step with care and dignity. We look forward to continuing to serve families here in this thoughtfully designed facility.

On 18 July, ahead of its official opening on 15 August, Association of Funeral Directors Exco team visited the new Mandai North Crematorium & Garden of Serenity to understand its architecture, layout and new processes. By familiarising ourselves with the new facilities early, we can serve families with greater care and guidance when they come here for their loved ones’ final journey.

Mandai North Crematorium, operated by the National Environment Agency, spans 2.4 hectares, houses six service halls and a self-help ash collection system. Beside it, the Garden of Serenity offers a tranquil setting for inland ash scattering with landscaped lanes.

On the late night of 8 August 2025, we wrapped up a session of After Hours @ My Toa Payoh with Patrick Lee, with a special tour at our Toa Payoh funeral home for My Community Festival (MCF).

Organised by My Community, MCF celebrates the people, places, and stories that make up our everyday lives. This year marks our sixth year collaborating with MCF to open our doors and share more about funerals and what happens after death.

Led by our fourth-generation funeral director, Ang Ziqian, participants were given rare access to the inner workings of the funeral profession—from the people who work through the night, to the care and detail that go into every final farewell.

As part of this year’s My First Journey theme, the experience also served as a quiet reminder that every journey begins and ends with care. From learning about the tools of the trade to exploring how we honour lives with compassion, the special guided tour by our team offered a meaningful glimpse into a world many rarely see.

Thank you to everyone who joined us with open minds and thoughtful questions. We hope the experience gave you new perspectives on life, death, and the work we do in between.

For Nurses’ Day, we supported Dover Park Hospice with their lucky draw gifts. A total of 10 recipients received prizes presented by our Marketing Manager, Eve Yap, at the prize-giving segment.

This was a meaningful way to show appreciation for the nurses who care for patients with unwavering compassion and professionalism. Their work makes a lasting impact during some of life’s most difficult moments.

We would also like to thank the staff who worked hard to put this celebration together — your efforts behind the scenes helped make the day special and meaningful for everyone.

Happy Nurses’ Day to all the incredible nurses and staff at Dover Park Hospice. 💙

Thank you to all nurses for your compassion and dedication. Your care makes all the difference — Happy Nurses’ Day! ❤️

Happy to be part of SBM@L.iVE Fiesta 2025 at (NYP).

Our Managing Director, Mr Ang Ziqian, joined the fireside chat at the L.iVE Summit #2, alongside Tan Tse Yong (ArrowMe Logistics) and Thomas Hoon (Nexus Alliance). Daniel Ng (Omni Integra LLP) moderated the session.

They discussed about growing traditional businesses and going global with purpose. Mr Ang shared his journey at Ang Chin Moh Funeral Directors and The Last Gift — where we honour our roots while embracing change.

From the ”silent sector“ of funeral services to future-facing innovation, he touched on how designing for the human condition is the core of everything we do — especially in life’s most tender and vulnerable moments.

The discussion reminds us that businesses can grow and still stay compassionate when they serve real needs.

Thank you to NYP and the School of Business Management for hosting this meaningful event.

We are committed to leading with heart and purpose.
