Started by Dr Vanessa Lin, a Veterinary Surgeon with varied international experience (Australia, Malaysia and Singapore) experienced in diagnosing and treating animal illnesses, and performing surgery. My Family Vet Clinic and Surgery pride ourselves in providing the best possible care for our patients and clients. We strive to provide high quality, ethical and personalised care for your animals and giving you a peace of mind that you are getting the best advice possible. We are open and approachable when problems arise and to discuss alternative options and treatment so to provide accessible preventative health care, to ensure all animals are offered a chance of avoiding preventable diseases. Dr Lin also has a keen interest in dermatology, soft tissue surgeries and Chinese medicine therapies for pets. She had worked in an emergency hospital and gained good experience in caring of critical patients, which demands competence in treating trauma lesions, and correcting medical or surgical disorder. Whilst we sincerely hope your animal never has cause to visit us apart from receiving preventative health care and routine check ups, please do not hesitate to contact us if you notice anything unusual or abnormal about your pet or if you have any questions about or require any assistance regarding your animal. Meet Shorty 🤍
When Shorty was 5 years old, his future was uncertain. He was labelled “aggressive” and was just hours away from being euthanised. But we saw something different, a dog who was scared, hurt, and desperate for a chance.

The beginning wasn’t easy. Shorty didn’t trust easily. He would growl, snap, and retreat when he felt threatened. Some days were frustrating, some days heartbreaking, but we never gave up. Slowly, with patience, consistency, and lots of love, he began to change. Small victories like a wagging tail, a tentative cuddle, a playful bark had reminded us that trust could grow if given the time and care it deserved.

Over the years, Shorty transformed. The dog who once hid in fear became a joyful, loving companion. He learned to play, to relax, and to share his affection freely. He became part of our family in every sense, teaching us daily about resilience, patience, and unconditional love.

Now, at 13 years old, Shorty has spent 8 wonderful years in our home. Every quirky habit, every joyful zoom around the house, every moment of calm beside us tells the story of how far he’s come. From a misunderstood, fearful dog to the gentle, loyal soul we love today. Shorty’s journey is proof that every life deserves a chance.

BabyBaby came into Dr Vanessa’s life in the most unexpected way.
She was brought into the clinic after being knocked down by a car — a stray shipyard dog, frightened and in pain. On examination, it was discovered that she was heavily pregnant, carrying nine puppies.

She was kept in the clinic to recover, and two weeks later, with a little assistance and a lot of strength on her part, she gave birth to all nine.

Finding homes for the puppies was a journey in itself. In the end, Dr Vanessa adopted BabyBaby and one little pup who couldn’t find a home. With her limited creativity with names, she named him PuppyBaby — and that’s how this mother-and-son duo became part of her family.

For the past 13 years, they’ve been by her side, growing up, growing old, and filling her life with quiet companionship and unconditional love.

One question she gets asked all the time is: “Does PuppyBaby know BabyBaby is his mum?”
Honestly… she thinks he does.

Science tells us that puppies are born with a strong ability to recognize their mother through scent — it’s their very first language. During the early weeks of life, this bond is reinforced through nursing, warmth, and constant contact. Studies show that dogs can retain familiar scent memories for years, and they’re incredibly good at recognizing individuals they’ve formed early bonds with.

While we can’t say they understand “mother” in the same way humans do, long-term attachment, comfort-seeking, and social bonding are very real in dogs. And when she looks at the way PuppyBaby follows her, rests beside her, and simply chooses her… it’s hard not to believe there’s something deeper there.

Maybe it’s instinct. Maybe it’s memory. Maybe it’s just love.

Whatever it is, it’s been one of the sweetest experiences of her life — watching this mother and son grow up, and grow old, together.

From a roadside accident to a home filled with warmth — BabyBaby’s story is one she will always carry with her.

Meet Princess, our beloved clinic cat, came into our lives under difficult circumstances. She had been adopted by a family from another home, who were unaware that she was pregnant. Unfortunately, she developed severe complications, including dystocia and a uterine prolapse. Unable to afford the necessary veterinary care, the family considered taking her home to let her pass, explaining that they were financially strained and already caring for a large household with many children.

We offered them the option to surrender her instead, and they agreed. Princess underwent emergency surgery and required intensive post-operative care. Despite the odds, she recovered remarkably well.

During her recovery, she captured the hearts of our entire team. We named her Princess, and she soon became our official clinic cat. Today, she roams freely around the clinic, carrying herself with confidence and authority, truly living up to her name. She acts like the boss, and is deeply loved by everyone here.
