Maintaining a healthy body weight is not just about calorie counting or hitting 300 min of planned physical activity per week. Instead, we encourage you to re-think your approach and aim to achieve a healthy relationship with your mind, body, and food by nourishing your body with nutrient-dense food most of the time and reconnecting with yourself through physical activity in a sustainable manner. Let us worry about the numbers, while we journey with you in your effort to achieve a healthy body weight!

There are various approaches to a healthy diet. While it is important to ensure that you calorie intake does not exceed your calorie expenditure, your food choices are equally as important. Instead of labelling food as good or bad, healthy or unhealthy, group them in 3 broad categories (More, Some, Less). Generally, whole foods are grouped under 'Eat more', while ultra-processed food items are classified as 'Eat less'. With this approach, you may find it easier to select good quality nutrient-dense food options more often, ultimately achieving a healthier and more well-balanced diet without too many incidences of cravings and hunger pangs!

Our body weight is primarily made up of 4 components, bones, soft tissues (inc. fat and muscles), and water. Understanding how much each component contributes to your weight provides you a better picture of your overall health. The body composition analysis is thus mainly used before embarking on a program/routine or periodically as a form of baseline measurement and progress tracking respectively.

We offer 2 methods of analyzing your body composition. The bio-impedance method is a quick, convenient, inexpensive, and fairly accurate form of measurement. The DEXA method, while being the most accurate, is more costly and inconvenient. No matter which you choose, a consultation with our exercise physiologist is included. During the consultation, our exercise physiologist will not only interpret and explain the results to you, but also guide you towards your body composition goals.

Power has been the best measure of performance in the cycling realm as it provides a very objective measure of work output, regardless of circumstances. Racing in any of the cycling disciplines require different combinations of time-specific power production and energy systems to maximize your potential for performance and results. The ability to quantify this using the Power Profile Test allows us to identify your strengths and weaknesses as a rider as well as to track changes as the racing season progresses.

Also known as the VO2max test, this test measures the maximal amount of oxygen that your working muscles can utilize to produce energy and perform movement. As such, your VO2max is an indicator of your current aerobic fitness level and may also be used to predict sporting potential. A high VO2max value typically signifies a high level of cardiovascular fitness, aerobic performance, and endurance potential.

Another key takeaway from this test is your Maximum Aerobic Speed/Power. This can then be used for interval prescription and workout creation, as well as give a more complete picture of your physiological strengths and weaknesses, especially when done together with the Lactate Threshold test.

Remember the burning sensation in your muscles during a hard workout?

That is actually caused by an accumulation of your blood lactate and has a debilitating effect on human performance when your body is unable to ‘clear’ this natural by-product of energy conversion fast enough. This point is commonly known as the lactate threshold.

It is therefore one of the key performance indicators in endurance sports and can be used to establish training zones and pacing strategies.
