The National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS) is a national specialist centre for cancer under the National University Health System (NUHS). It is the only comprehensive public cancer centre in Singapore treating both paediatric and adult cancers in one facility. Located at the National University Hospital (NUH), we offer a broad spectrum of cancer care with expertise in prevention, s

creening, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and palliative care. Besides improving the quality of care to cancer patients, the NCIS also trains and nurtures the next generation of healthcare professionals in this field of medicine. Working closely with scientists to advance cancer medicine, the NCIS hopes to translate basic research discoveries in the laboratory to applied research for clinical trials and eventually to better treatments. Back at the Health Together Carnival this year!

NCIS is proud to be on the ground last Saturday engaging the community on screenable cancers — including cervical, breast and colorectal cancers — through interactive activities and conversations, at The Promenade @ West Coast.

We were also honoured to have Minister for National Development and Minister-in-charge of Social Services Integration, Mr Desmond Lee, join us at the event in support of community health efforts.

Early detection can make a real difference. By raising awareness and encouraging regular screening, we hope to empower more individuals to take charge of their health.

We are launching a supportive care option developed specifically for patients undergoing or recovering from cancer treatment.
Unlike regular massages, Oncology Massage is delivered by a 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘀𝘁 who uses adapted, safe, medically informed techniques to support patient comfort, relaxation, and emotional wellbeing. It is a 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆, not a substitute for medical treatment.

We were honoured to host the launch of Clinical Management of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumours.

The event brought together clinicians, collaborators, patients, and partners in a shared commitment to advancing sarcoma care. This publication reflects NCIS and NUH's leadership in strengthening how sarcoma is recognised and managed, supporting clearer care pathways and closer collaboration across clinical teams with the aim of improving patient outcomes with this rare cancer.

‘𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻’ 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲

Prof Goh Boon Cher, Senior Consultant, Department of Haematology-Oncology, NCIS, explained that the rarity and diversity of salivary gland cancers make them challenging to treat, particularly when surgery and radiotherapy are no longer effective. Dr Chong Wan Qin, Consultant in the same department, cautioned that painless or seemingly benign lumps in the neck or jaw should never be ignored, as early evaluation is key to better outcomes.

NCIS patients Mdm Jumidah and Ms Esther Tan reflect the promise of personalised medicine, with both having responded well to targeted therapies. With advances in molecular testing and continued investment in clinical trials, there is growing hope for patients facing this rare cancer.
