Is your world looking a little bit "cloudy"? ☁️👀

Did you know that cataracts are the leading cause of vision loss worldwide? They happen when the natural lens of your eye becomes cloudy, making it harder for light to pass through.

Common signs to watch for:
Blurry or foggy vision
Difficulty seeing at night (especially with glare from headlights)
Faded-looking colours
Haloes around lights

The good news? Cataract surgery is one of the safest and most successful procedures in modern medicine. Most patients report a massive improvement in their quality of life almost immediately!

Don't wait for your vision to fade completely. WhatsApp or call 68872020 to book a routine screening today to keep your world bright and clear. ✨

Are your arms suddenly "too short" for your handphone? 📱👀

If you’ve found yourself holding menus at arm’s length or squinting to read a text, you might be experiencing presbyopia.

What is it?
It’s a natural part of ageing. As we hit our 40s, the eye’s natural lens gradually loses its flexibility, making it harder to focus on things up close. In Singapore, it's often called “lao hua yan” (老花眼).

The Good News: You have options!

You don’t have to settle for blurry vision. There are several ways to clear things up:
Optical Aids: Simple reading glasses (readers), bifocals, or progressive lenses that offer a seamless transition from far to near.
Contact Lenses: Multifocal contacts or "monovision" (one eye for distance, one for near).
New Eye Drops: Innovative prescription drops like Vuity or pilocarpine can temporarily shrink your pupil to improve near focus for several hours.
Surgical Solutions: Long-term options like LASIK monovision, corneal inlays, or Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) can reduce or even eliminate your need for glasses.
Don't ignore the strain! Leaving it untreated can lead to headaches and eye fatigue.

Is it time for a check-up?
The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends a baseline eye exam for all adults starting at age 40. Talk to your eye care professional to find the perfect fit for your lifestyle.

One of the most cited scientific articles by Dr Ajeet Wagle, Dr Lim Wei Yen, Dr Tiong Yap, Dr Neelam Kumari and Adj A/Prof Kah Guan Au Eong is a paper on the quality of life of individuals suffering from vitreous floaters published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology in 2011. Most authors and presenters discussing the treatment of floaters will often cite this paper to illustrate the negative impact of floaters on the quality of life of those afflicted by it.

The paper was again cited during a lecture by Prof. Dr. med Ulrich Welge-Lussen on "Targeted Micronutrient Supplementation in Managing Vitreous Floaters: Clinical Data and Practitioner Insights" on 7 February 2026 in Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Evidence-based nutritional supplements are now available to treat patients with floaters in Singapore including at the International Eye Cataract Retina Centre.

The full details of the paper are as follows: Wagle AM, Lim WY, Yap TP, Neelam K, Au Eong KG. Yap Utility values associated with vitreous floaters. Am J Ophthalmol. 2011 Jul;152(1):60-65.e1. doi: 10.1016/j.ajo.2011.01.026. Epub 2011 May 12. PMID: 21570045
