Yesterday Rizal came with bad pain that he walked with a limp. Upon examination, I diagnosed that it was a case of sciatica nerve impingement. After a massage by the masseur and followed by me doing acupuncture on his lower back and chiropractic, he got so much better. I have a great sense of satisfaction.

There was a similar case a few days ago that a man came in a wheelchair. He got so much better that he left without the need of the wheel chair. I forgot to do a video though.

A teacher came to see me for a puzzling condition. He found it difficult to project his voice fully. Other than that, he didn't have any other medical issues like sore throat, chest pain, etc.

After speaking to him for a while to find out more about his symptoms, I concluded that it was due to ying(阴) deficiency of the lungs. I decided to prescribe 沙参麦冬汤 and 小柴胡汤 to him. The former is to moisten the lungs, the latter is to reduce the heatiness associated with ying deficiency.

Glad to receive a message from him that he is well now.

The clinic has been expanded. It is more spacious and comfortable after renovation. More masseurs helping me out too. I am glad I have a good team. We work hard but we play hard too. The business model is close to what I envisioned when I started out 7 years ago. Thank you to all customers who have been supporting us all these years.

It is rare to treat a dislocated shoulder. I was delighted to put back a right shoulder dislocation of this Chinese worker last night. Hearing the sound (咕噜gulu) of the humerus head sliding back into the shoulder socket was a sheer joy. His right shoulder is back to a normal rounded shape.
In a hurry to help him as he was in great pain, I didn't manage to take a photo of his deformed shoulder before treatment. He said he will come back to seek treatment of his left shoulder that has poor range of motion due to old injury.

I received an email from CaseTrust, thanking me for my continual support of being CaseTrust certified. Actually nothing to thank me for as I don't need the certification if not because it is compulsory by law. Anyway, no customers coming to seek treatment ever cares to know whether my clinic is CaseTrust certified or not.

CaseTrust also urges the business to extend their contract with consumers due to business disruption by Covid 19. However, disappointingly CaseTrust is not able to ask the Insurer AVA to also extend the insurance that companies paid to protect them should the companies run into troubles with their contracts with customers.

This is my reply to CaseTrust:

Dear ###,

I don't need CaseTrust to boost my business. I never had any customers coming in because my business is CaseTrust certified. The hefty fee of $2400 every two years only adds to my business cost, not to mention the need to pay a consultant thousands of dollars to prepare the assessment document. In the name of protecting the customers because of a small number of unethical business practices, the entire industry is punished.

What I need is somebody to help look into high regulatory costs and red tapes of dealing with government agencies. With lower operating costs, the benefits can then go to the customers.

Government has allowed TCM practitioners to work since 5 May. I am back to work.

Also kudos to MP Lee Bee Wah for speaking up for TCM in parliament. I like her gut of repeatedly trying to seek an answer from the Health Minister. I believe her classic remarks of "do you need me to ask in English or you will answer" and "is it TCM medicine doesn't taste as good as ice cream and cakes?" will be always remembered by folks who believe in TCM.

In view of COVID-19 stricter measures imposed on what TCM services can be provided, we decide to close the clinic from 7 Apr till 4 May or until the restrictions are lifted.

Although we must stay calm in the face of COVID-19, it will be good to be paranoid of the risks. Please take all the precautions seriously. You may have already escaped a few near misses that you are not aware of.

All the TCM herbs that detox and sooth your throat and lungs are beneficial. These include 菊花,夏枯草,罗汉果,甘草,板兰根,山豆根etc.

Until we meet again, take care everybody.

Just trying to contribute to our fight against Covid 19. I see there is a need to get all eateries to observe strict hygiene standards. Almost all food handlers of food stalls in coffee shops and hawker centres do not wear a mask. This is a big weak link in battling the virus. Take the economic rice stalls (chai fan or 菜饭) as an example. It is not difficult to imagine the amount of droplets over the dishes that are laying open for hours when the servers interact with the customers on what dishes they want to order. Same goes for economic bee hoon(经济米粉), char kway teow, chay tao kway, etc.

It is time for an overhaul of food hygiene standards. You see forks & spoons and chop sticks laying open for customers to access themselves. Inevitably, the customers also touch the other utensils.

You see the cleaners use the same piece of cloth to wipe the many dinning tables without changing.

My observations are common sense. We should not wait for a case to flare up then we scramble to react to what is so obvious.

The clinic has a kitchen. Sometimes I cook one dish meals when the masseurs are busy working. I enjoy my experimental cooking. The staff actually think I can cook quite well.

Da Jie has pain in the joints and could not press the hand against each other. After half and hour of tuina and joints mobilisation, she could do it without difficulty. I told her the condition is due to overuse of fingers in housework like wringing cloths, cooking, etc.

The husband was also here for a massage for pain in the arm by my masseur. Da Jie said she will return for a massage for knee pain.

After almost 5 years, I am thankful that my Japanese customer, Makoto, still remembers me when he comes to Singapore.
