The PSS Industry Chapter, together with the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, was very honoured to host Prof. Taruna Ikar, Chairperson of the Indonesia Food and Drug Authority (BPOM), for a Global Health Public Lecture & Panel on the 21st of April.

This event brought together representatives from the Industry, Academia and Public sector to understand the drivers behind BPOM’s transformation to establish itself as a WHO Listed Authority.

There was a robust and broad discussion ranging from opportunities for BPOM to support the development of other health authorities in the region, tapping on Indonesia’s rich biodiversity to support the development of herbal therapies and advancing mutual recognition amongst leading health authorities in the region to maximize regulator evaluative capacity.

On behalf of the industry chapter at PSS, we would like to extend our appreciation to Prof Taruna for his time and sharing his valuable insights with us and look forward to future opportunities for continued dialogue.

On 28 March 2026, PSS and the Healthcare Services Employees' Union (HSEU) signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This collaboration is dedicated to upskilling, uplifting, and upgrading the pharmacy workforce to ensure continued professional relevance.

Key Focus Areas:
- Career Advancement: Establishing clear progression pathways and national competency-based frameworks, with a primary focus on Pharmacy Technicians.
- Mentorship & Growth: pairing experienced professionals with technicians and providing cross-sector exposure across hospital, community, and industrial pharmacy.
- Strategic Outreach: Strengthening the healthcare community through joint membership recruitment and professional advocacy.
