Rash on your child’s skin? Here’s what parents need to know.
Almost every child will develop a rash at some point. While it can be worrying, most childhood rashes are common, mild, and temporary—often linked to irritation, allergies, or everyday infections.
👶 Common causes include:
• Dermatitis (e.g. nappy rash, eczema, contact irritation)
• Viral infections (e.g. roseola, chickenpox, hand, foot & mouth disease)
• Bacterial or fungal infections (e.g. impetigo, ringworm, scarlet fever)
Simple care—such as gentle cleansing, regular moisturising, and avoiding triggers—can help many rashes improve.
⚠️ When to seek medical advice:
• Rash spreads quickly or looks severe
• Pain, oozing, or swelling develops
• Your child has a fever or seems unwell
Rashes are a normal part of growing up, and understanding the possible causes can help you feel more confident in managing them.
